Just wondering what some of you guys got on the older 2.4 chips I have a couple of them, on a nice asus board with a huge cobber heatsink and fan.... What is the max voltage I should try... ect... what are you guys hitting

The highest I ever hit with a 2.4 NW chip was 3.3Ghz, anything more was either too hot or required too much voltage. I managed a few chips at 3.4, but none really were too stable. Each veried in voltage. Go from stock voltage and add vcore if you need it. Most didn't require much voltage bump if at all to keep stable at those speeds.

Most 2.4 ghz Northwood C's are good for 3.0 - 3.4 ghz.
If I remember correctly you shouldn't exceed 1.7 volts on the core.
Sudden northwood death syndrome.

my old northwoods would lock if they pushed or got past 65C... results may vary. I'd aim for under 60C under load as a max, plus give some temp room for those hot summer days.

I remember mine was clocked at either 3.0 or 3.2ghz, and I used an after market heatsink/fan. I never modified the vcore.

Good ole' Northwood, IMO, one of the best CPUs Intel ever made :). They (at least my 2.6 GHz did, 800 quad pumped FSB) ran very cool (much cooler than the Preshott). I think my chip went to 3.0 GHz or 3.2 GHz on air at stock vcore (or maybe a little bump in vcore for 24/7 F@H), cool runnin' and stable. (It's been a while, I can't remember)
I hope the new penryn quads run cooler also with less vcore to OC'
That's my $0.02 cents worth :D

I got to play around with at least a dozen northwoods and all of them handled 3.3 well, and some freaks got to 3.6 during that time. Those processors reminded me of the old Celery 300a.

let's put it this way, anything is better than prescott as far as heat is concerned.

I had my prescott overclocked to 3.6 ghz as well and that thing was hitting 55 idle and 70's under load...

take my quad which is 4 cores and it's running 3.6ghz with MORE transistors and idling at 39 with 55 under load...

if it wasn't for my video card upgrade to a GTX, I wouldn't have a good heater for my room this winter...

I have a 30 capper 2.4c that ran 3.0 for the past 3 years, on stock voltage (folding the whole time!). Right before I upgraded to a Q6600 I wanted to see what it could do. It ran up to 3.2 on default voltage w/ hyperthreading. With Hyperthreading off, it would run 3.4 on default voltage. Upping the voltage only slightly allowed it to run 3.5 w/ hypterthreading. This was on a P4P800 (non-deluxe). I think I had major vdoop issues - so I bet 3.6 would be in reach. This was all with STOCK Cooling LOL ...

Great chip

I must say, though, the Q6600 is MUCH faster.
