Will Socket A coolers work on Socket 370 chips? I would like to run my p3 server passive and it would be very possible with some of the better socket A coolers out there (SLK900a for example). Some socket A say they are 370 compatible, some don't. Even if they aren't, could the be modified to fit the socket 370 platform?

Need to get my p3 server silent guys... any help would be appreciated

The socket lugs are the same distance apart., meaning the heatsinks will generally clip on fine. Just watch for capacitors or something close to the socket on your motherboard, think newer specs call for more clearance around the CPU which could be blocked on a S370 board.

I've got a tualatin chip that I had to de-arch the mount clip as it sheared the fingers off my tualatin adapter. on a standard pIII, anything from a socket 7, socket A or socket 370 hsf will mount up.

There's the current beastie. I gave up on putting on my turn-to-lock golden orb from way back on this tualatin after it sheared the small center pins off of both adapters, I had to go get a modern hsf with the wider multi-hole adapter. The old g-orb worked fine on my celeron 667 coppermine but not the 1.4 tul. Even with the new one it snapped one of the large fingers off and I had to de-arch the clip for the second one, it seems to be holding. As for the zip tie, well its a heavy bastard and using a socket adapter I'm asking to break something if I don't support the weight.
