I have seen a lot of you using the P180 case.
Ok just picked up one and getting a neo 550 ps.
Will the 4 pin 12v lead reach the top of the motheboard or will I need
an extension?

in the lower bay, I have 2 320G WD drives and need a boot drive as well.
How will the temps be if I put a 150 raptor in there as well.
Can the stock config with the 120 pulling air keep these 3 cool ?

and have you figured out a way to put in a 120 front in lower section without removing the bracket? I dont' mind doing that but how do you retain the lower drive cage?

Well need to know what kind of MB you will be using to answer your first question. Then I can make an educated guess unless someone here has that combo.

Second the fan in lower bay will more than cool your three HD's. A lot of people say that an active PSU with Fan can do the job and probably can, but Im a cooling whore. The more the better. I run three drives in lower cage - raptor and two sata maxtor's.

I wouldn't worry about a fan in front of lower section. The fan I have in there, albeit a replacement becuase I needed a slimmer fan than stock to fit PSU cables, pulls enough air to feel it on the front of the case.
 
I think you'll need an extension with just about any motherboard out there, unless that PSU has extra long cables on it. You may need an extension for the ATX connector as well.

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium, and I needed to extend both cables.

Anyone know when they have extension cables for the PSU? Someplace B&M preferably. Fry's? Radio Shack? I'm building a second p180 system(great case) and this time I think it may not work.
 
I have the P180 and a asrock dual sata II mobo, I also have an antec 430 truepower and didn't need an extension. I wasn't sure at first but it made it. The connector is way at the top, I can't imagine any other mobos having it much further away.
 
yea bigbadgreen the neo550 shows some L O N G cables..77cm I believe on the 4 pin so it sould fit....its listed a little longer than the truepower and I have one in my other case but its a std atx with ps on the top so I never thought of it.
Everything looks ok until I get the mb in and its 10:30 on a sat night and then it won't LOL

Right now I am still torn on the mb. Either an Abit ab9pro 965 or get a 975 asus.
I looked at some others, gigajunk is just that, asus is WAY overpriced on 965...etc

they all have the 4 pin on the top of the mb mounted in a tower case. and the 24 pin is 3/4 the way up the board.

I was hoping that some good boards would be released this week but it doesn't look like it.

kydsid I just looked at the lower fan...why is it so thick? You just pull out this one and stick in a thinner one?
how did you get your drive power from the psu and past the fan?

the top if the case looks ok...the bottom looks like they didn't put much thought in it.

I had to get a 4 pin extension for my board, the p180b and my neohe550. Otherwise the only way i could route the cable was around my video card and up, and it looked like crap.

Being a big fan of nice cable management, i bought a 4 pin extension, and routed the cable from behind the upper bays, across and behind the motherboard, and then over the top to connect to the header.

The hard drive power part was easy, i just ran it along the side of the fan insert on the bottom. Then they SATA power cables connect to the power cord behind that drive bay cage.

that is some nice cable managment Schmiggy, especially for this case. I just routed mine past the vid card. there is no window and one cable that is only the 4 pin isn't going to disrupt air flow enough to concern me. the rest of my cables are tied nicely and laid out, and I guess I could by the extension for next to nothing, but it doesn't bother me and nobody can see it.

Now I just wish some case maker would build hidden cables into their design, where you just plug the main and 12v into respective plugs at the bottom and they are hidden until they reach the top. better yet why don't they make a case where you could use like 1/2" standoffs and route everything easily instead of mashing it behind the mobo. right now all the ports at the back get in the way. I'd like to see a case maker do that and work with a mobo maker to make a board with all of the connectors on the backside of the board so you don't see any cables. We see more and more catering to modders and I'm hoping this idea is already out there.
 
Both the lower drive fan, and the optional front fan attach to mounting brackets via standard fan screws. For the lower one you just slide it out and unscrew stock fan which is a whopping 38mm thick. In the new revision they used a thinner fan so obviously I wasn't the only one with clearance issues between PSU cables and the fan.

As for drive power I had to go up and over because of the factory sleeving on my PSU. Wouldn't allow me to go down with the cable for SATA power if I was going to go up with the ATX power. Oh well no window and minimal disruption to air.

Same board and case for me, therefore same cables were requried.

24-pin Extension
4-pin Extension

Always check either SVC or Directron for the odd things, especially SVC as they will not rape you on shipping ;). Only $1.88 shipping :D.
