1) If the bottom compartment is fully selaed off from the top.. what good is the fan in the middle doing? The PSU will suck air from inside the case, and spit it outside the case. If the bottom part is nice and airtight.. only place to get air would be from the front, drawing it over the hard drives. Only time I could see middle fan mattering is if the PSU fan was on slow.. which leads me to

2) Doesn't forcing air into the back of the PSU not accomplish a lot? PSU has it's own fan moving at it's own CFM.... pushing some crap through wouldn't seem to do a lot.

3) Lot of people saying turn the "blow-hole" should be turned down towards the cpu. I can see this working okay.. blowhole down, and an exhaust right next to it blowing out. However.. then we have a total of 2 fans blowing in (top + front), and only 1 going out (back). To compensate, do we just make sure the back fan is really blowing a lot of CFM? only 1 way for air out of a case seems insufficient.

4) How bad are the stock fans? I usually add all my own fans to try and get nice quiet ones.. assume I can gain some ground with better fans here too?
 
Also, looking at the CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX power supply. Will the cables reach the mobo?
 
The Corsair 620 fits fine in my P180. All the cables reach. The 520 should be fine.

The bottom compartment is mostly sealed, but the middle fan is still good to help air move through the bottom, pulling over the HDD bay. There are vent holes in the back all around the PSU ... it's all exhaust pushed by the middle fan.

From experience, shutting off the middle fan will raise drive temps a few degrees. The Corsair is cool running and has very little airflow ... it doesn't need it. I keep the middle fan on low, with a raptor spinning all the time, and the only noise I get from that bottom area is drive seeks. Heat isn't an issue at all, and neither is noise from that middle fan.

Replace all the other fans in the case. I have Scythe and Nexus 120s and they're noticably quieter than the stock antec fans.
 
yah.. bottom middle fan is a little harder to replace because it was a 38mm thick guy.

I planned to seal up all the holes as I saw others do to improve airflow. With that corsair power supply, there is no directly out the back fan.. so I think the middle fan pushing air + sealing all the other holes will be good.. more airflow for the psu and harddrives.

Ok case is on order.. p180b was $30 cheaper on newegg than p180.. looks like black it is.

Will start looking for nexus or such fans, see where I can snag some at a good price.

You can get Yate Loon D12SL-12 fans from jabtech for very cheap. They are exactly the same fans as the Nexus fans, but run at a slightly higher rpm at 12V.

If you have a fan controller, I strongly recommend the Yate Loon fans as you can control them to exactly how much airflow/noise you want.

If you do not have a fan controller but want to run all the fans at full speed all the time, get the Nexus fans as they run slightly quieter at full speed.
