I've never seen one before yesterday, when I came across it in a CompUSA going out of business. Wow. It's so huge, it just looks stupid. I can't imagine trying to stick the thing on a desk, seems like the only decent place would be the floor.

From what I've seen they're pretty popular, but with a size like that I can't imagine why unless you're building some terabyte server and need a ton of room.
 
So you joined just to insult a case....

Im not being a !!!!!! either, i dont care for it either, but cases are mainly for personal preference.

Also, you must be used to shuttles or something if you think a moderate sized midtower is huge. Someone should show you a stacker, or a lian li v2000 :)
 
It's not that big. I believe that it's still considered a mid-tower. Try going to a full size tower like the G70.

Space can make a HUGE differece. I had the P180.. Not happy.. I know others are, and god bless 'em, but I'll stick to my G70. :)
 
Haha, you could have gone with the "your mom is huge" thing, that's what I was hoping for. No really, I just never expected any case to be that large. I've got a Dell Dimension 8400 case (and I hate it, LOL) and I thought that was a full tower, although it's maybe 60-70% of the size.

I'm probably going to go with this:

when I build my new system. Although I guess this is only a few inches smaller than the P180. Maybe my eyes were deceiving me, but it did seem massive.

No room in it at all. I had one then sold it to my brother. But Friday i took a dremel to it, so i could make it an OK case. It has to much shit to it, that is not needed. Another 4"s longer and it would be a great case.

LoL, spoken like a true noobie. You think that of the P180, if you ever saw a case like mine, Lian Li PC-7077, you might pee your pants.
 
is having it on the ground bad? i have it on the ground. got a fan filter of course.
 
I have my case on the ground, and it sucks up tons of dust.

temps dropped 6 degrees after cleaning it.
 
Huge? Yeah, I guess compared to a small pre-built desktop. But if you want to stuff it with a ton of hotrod parts with the associated performance gain...it tends to be a bit small. Still works ok though...

Haha nice. I'll probably never have a huge case as I can't justify spending x% more dollars for y% more performance at the high end, because x/y ends up being much greater than 1. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

Not that I'm getting a Dell again though, I've had enough of them. I built all the comps I had before that and only got this because it would cost $1200 to build + $400 for the LCD, and they were having a 1 day sale for $1000. Too hard to resist, LOL.

Wow... and I gotta say, a $300 case, man. I guess there's always a market though.

a video card will last you... 8 months.

a case will last you years.

So I see getting a good case as an investment.
 
Nah, for me video cards usually last about 2-3 years. Just got an X1900XT 6 months ago. Although, once some decent DX10 games are out, I think I might have break the 2 year rule.

I need some decent new FPS games!
 
I bought a P180b case last month. I'm pretty happy with it. It is a lot bigger then my 1040b case I upgraded from. It sits on the floor though. The only real complaint is that it is heavy.
 
Yes, the case seems huge. Once you cram a Core 2 setup with gargantuan heatsinks on everything in there along with a hardware-level SCSI RAID-5 setup and an obscenely long video card, suddenly space gets cramped really quickly.

Cases like the P180 and CM Stacker are made for people who need lots of space, and they do a great job at what they are supposed to. If you don't like those, may I suggest getting some ASS? :eek: :p
 
heh.. you think that case is big... this is my yeong yang 0221 server cube, and it is considered large, but not big, the big one is the 0420, regarless, with every thing in it, and full of water, it weighs in at 50lbs...

I don't like server type cases like the CM Stacker; if you put gaming type gear in there it looks a little strange in such a huge case. The P180 is ok in this department, just needs to be 1-2" longer.

On topic: Cases are personal preference. I personally really like the P180 - it may be big...and a heavy mutha...it's still a great case. Have you seen the inside? The design is ingenious - in my opinion it's on par with Lian Li which I was gonna buy till I saw the P180.

Or a Terabyte workstation & gaming machine. It's got enough space that I can fit in my raptor 150 as well as three Seagate 750GB SATA drives for a nice RAID 5. And I potentially have space to add more 750GB drives, maxing out at a 3.75TB RAID 5 array. That gives me just enough hard drive storage space to store a few text documents and a small MP3 collection.
 
Yeah, large cases can be nice...but they arent required. I recently built a system for a customer that wanted a some big hardware in a small package, mostly because he tends to cart his PC around to LAN's.

These were the specs we came up with:
- Core2 Duo E6600
- BigTyphoon CPU cooler
- MicroATX Motherboard
- 2BG DDR2 800
- 8800GTX
- 1KW PC Power and Cooling PSU
- 80GB Raptor OS drive
- 2x 750GB Storage Drives
- Lite-On DVD Burner
- SoundBlaster XFi

And I shoved the whole thing into this tiny little case. Apart from all the wires coming from that PSU being a pain to work with, and having to mount the 80GB Raptor to the floor of the case, it all worked out pretty well.
