OK, an acquaintance bought an Acer Aspire AX1430G-UW30P and was surprised when he couldn't play this game with it.

Looking around, you can find a low profile 7750 which will work fine, but the PSU won't handle it. Finding one that's guaranteed to fit is pretty chancy - only one close I can see that I would trust is this shuttle PSU. Add them together and he's got 500 bucks into the system total, and there's no guarantee that PSU will mount properly. Plus, I figured he'd need to tiewrap a fan to the outside of the case to blow air in as well, to keep the card and system cool.

It was looking like it might be more trouble that it was worth, so, I carted this system for him on newegg. Any way you guys can see to make it cheaper? Note, this game plays fine on my old core2duo system (in sig) at 1680x1050 (50+ FPS except when a town gets bombed and there's a shitton of smoke on screen and then it goes to hell) . Also note the case was picked due to free shipping.

You can do better for less, if your not in a major hurry, track the FS section here and/or wait for a hot deal, It's almost cyber monday.
Seen new 7850's with games that can be sold to bring the price down even further for $150. AMD gpu, Intel cpu is the only way to go game this gen IMO

Combo deals and waiting for any Cyber Monday specials are the best advice I can give you.

Speaking of which, promo code "SaleNZXT" gives you a 20% discount and free shipping on NZXT cases. However, it expires at 11:59 PM PST tonight (or 2:59 AM EST early Monday morning for the East Coast folk). Use the promo code to grab the Source 210 Elite instead of the "plain" Source 210. The Elite model comes with two fans (a 120mm rear-mounted fan and a 140mm top-mounted fan) and a USB 3.0 port in the front (though the other front USB port is USB 2.0). The "plain" Source 210 only comes with one 120mm (rear-mounted) fan (and both front USB ports are USB 2.0).

You can also use the following combo deal to shave a few more dollars off the overall cost:

$95 - AMD FX-4100 and ADATA XPG Gaming Series 2x4GB DDR3 1600 combo deal

I also found a cheaper motherboard (albeit likely on sale):

$40 - Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 Socket AM3+ AMD 760G micro-ATX motherboard

Hopefully, that all helps.

Great finds on that gigabyte board and the combo deal, thanks! Every bit helps.

I will actually be shipping him my old ATI 5770 to get rid of the vid card cost. Not as good as the 7750, but its free. :)

And we're thinking of gutting his Acer to transfer his drives, which removes OS and drive cost as well.

You'll also need to grab one of the NZXT Source 210 cases, preferably today.

The NewEgg pictures for the Acer Aspire desktop give me the impression that it uses a proprietary mini-ITX setup. That alone screams bad news.

FYI, the hard drive is reported to be a 5400 RPM drive. You may want to supplant that with a 120GB to 128GB SSD as your primary drive at some point in the future.

If I were you I wouldn't pull the trigger until Danny Bui weighs in on the matter.

Regarding the acer - yeah, thats what I thought, too - I totally shied away from just putting those internals into a mid or mini tower that could handle a real powersupply.

As far as the HD goes, I know its slow, but its what he's used to, so he doesn't know the difference. I'll get him to upgrade it sometime in the coming year.

And as far as the case goes - the board doesn't have USB3, and he won't likely be upgrading any time soon after this. I'm thinking the non-elite NZXT is the better idea right now, though I do like the elite a lot better with the change in orientation of the HD mounting.

Thanks for the help.
