Cliff's Notes: my Antec NEO480 is not blowing enough air, i think.

My first post here says a little more.

Is there any connection other than the PSU -> motherboard power plug (24pin) and the speed sensor that i might have missed that screwed me up?

Same with my Antec True-Power 2.0 EPS12v 550 and my Friends Antec NeoHE 480. I just cant feel air being moved out. Over the weekend i might open her up and mod it a bit. My CPU temps went up by 10c cause of the slow moving fans . If i open the side panel it drops by 10. And its not even summer yet and im idling at 45. :(

What kind of intake do you have in your case?

Maybe you should post what fans you're using to move air in/out of the case and where they're located.

1 80mm on the side (intake)
1 120mm PSU fan in the back (exhaust)
For now, that's it. : - ( I've got another 80mm in the back but it's only got screw holes on the exhaust side, and i think the last thing i need is to pull more air away from the PSU so i have that unplugged ATM.

Very good. You're thinking in the right direction there. ;)

But that fan on the side: Is that a fan occupying the TAC vent for the CPU? Is there no intake fan location in the front of the case?

I also have a neopower 480 and that sucker gets REALLY freaking hot. When they system has been under load for a while the air coming out of the back (not very much air, for the record) is blazing hot and the case of the PSU itself is hot to the touch. Seems like everyone sees that with the Neos. But I haven't had any issues with it...it's been rock stable.

That's really a characteristic of Antec that really plaques them. I've yet to see Antec not start with a decent platform: an HEC, CWT or Seasonic. But then they put their own thermal solution around the frame and that really screws with the capability of the power supply.

"They're rated at 50C" La dee da! They HAVE TO BE rated at 50C they get so damn hot.

I just want to make sure the OP has enough positive prssure to cool the PC and provide cool air to the PSU. You don't want to "rob" air from the PSU by creating a vacuum, but you don't want the power supply to just suck hot air off of other components. If there's enough intake into the case, then all components should be happy.

jonnyGURU: No, this case doesn't have anything on the front that i could use to mount a fan, unless i put something in one of the 5.25" bays... but that just seems, well, weird.

Eva_Unit_0: I had this PSU in my Antec P180 for the longest time and it barely got warm to the touch. Granted, i'm probably sucking ~200W - ~300W more out of this thing now.

I'm starting to think that i have two problems that are just compounding each other. One, an underpowered PSU and two, poor airflow.

Can anyone tell me the symptoms of a PSU under too much load? It'd just got hot, right? (I'll go look at the FAQ now :))
Also, is there any way to just make the PSU fan go as fast as it can instead of having to rely on the thermostat inside? 'Cause it doesn't seem like that's working very well. I should be able to get ~2000RPM out of it, right?

Thanks for all the help folks.

That's a pretty generic case there..

I've got a cheap as hell case, because i intend to use this case only for the summer and then put my build in my P180 which is currently in storage at College.
Maybe i should just bite the bullet and spend more money to get a better case? Or should i just get a better PSU? Both?

Start with a case with proper airflow. You might not need the PSU. ;)

Well, i just asked newegg to put an Antec P180 in the mail for me. It will be my second P180, and while that might be a little extravagant, i know it works great for me at college, i love the case, and i'm sure i can find something to put in it after that ;).

Is there any harm in continuing to use my 480W? If the thermal protection switch trips in the case that it does get insanely hot, will it just kill the power cleanly or are my components likely to go up in expensive smoke?

Thanks for all the help, and i'll let y'all know how things work out.
