I didn't know where would be the best place to post this thread. If there is a better section can admin please move it?
So onto my query......I am planning on buying a new PC but I'm moving to Sweden for six months. I currently live in the UK and will be returning here when I leave Sweden. The cheapest option appears to be to build my own machine but considering I've never done this before I'd rather not risk it. So in my circumstances the cheapest option seems to be to buy my machine off ebay.
I would buy a laptop but it just doesn't appear to offer the same as a desktop does. For example I was planning on buying an "Auzentech X-FI PRELUDE 7.1" sound card and I'm not sure if this would fit into the laptop? Also the 8800M cards look rather overpriced. Basically I don't think I can get a laptop to fit my specs and if I do it would most likely cost a lot more than the desktop option.
So taking all this into consideration the point where I am at now is that I'll be buying my PC off ebay from one of the shops there and then either asking them to ship it to Sweden or shipping it myself.
If I have to ship it myself, has anybody got any recommendations for this? For example, do companies actually do this? Who do it? What's the best way to go about it?
Any advice on the subject will be appreciated, thanks.
 
I think it would be best for you to ship the pc yourself, this way you can ensure it's properly packaged as they can go through quite a bit when shipping. The best way of ensuring everything survive is to take out everything that would fall loose, video card, sound card, heatsink, power supply, harddrive, etc, and wrap them in bubble wrap and stick them back inside the case so nothing can move around much and cause damage. You don't want anything loose rattling around. Probably the best bet is to build your own computer parts and assemble them in Sweden. There are plenty of guides around and it isn't too difficult.
