Overlocking i5 2500k help

Hey guys I was hoping to get some input on overclocking my cpu and ram
using asus p67a-gd55 with kingston hyper x 4gb 2000 ram
i set the cpu to 4.5GHz and voltage at 1.33 im not 100% sure if thats okay?
do i have to change anything else in the overclocking besides the frenquency and voltage?
and my ram i set to 2000 and 1600 but it's still showing 1333 for some reason? i set the vram frenquency to 2000 what voltage should i use? and last the timing i choose "LINK" instead of AUTO but not sure what timing should be used?

any details on this would save me some $ on having someone do this and give me knowledge to my pc more thanks in advance guys!
 
There is alot to overclocking outside of voltage and setting a multi.

You need to utilize an XMP profile for that ram. (if avail)

For 4.5ghz I would set offset + voltage to 0.025 (NOT 0.25) Very important!! as a start.
Set your DDR manually to 1.52'ish volts if you are going to be shooting for 1600. XMP will set all of this for you. Im sure that you are using 1.5v based ddr with that kingston. That is really high end ram. Also remember that socket 1155 only supports 1333 and anything higher is a true overclock of your memory controller. I recommend you do a little more research and actually clock that ram down to 1600 and set tigher timings. You will get faster response from the ram especially in really high update rate games like first person shooters where you are randomly moving in all directions really fast. Or in really CPU intensive games like Starcraft II. I run 16GB @ 1600 and trust me I am lucky to get 1600 with all 4 dimms filled with high den ram.

You need to make sure you are using other than stock hsf if you are going 4.5

Set your LLC High or 50% depending on your bios. Higher than High is going to be more for like 4.7-5.1range.

Make sure you have PLL overvoltage set but you can leave the voltage on auto.
Try that and see what happens. You can technically volt that chip to 1.55vcore but that is going to be for real high stuff like 5.1+ ghz and you need liquid or something else to cool that high under large loads.

Other people can help here too, just give them some time to reply.

Okay, I did what you said ty for the help! I see alot of people going over 4.5GHz some even in the 5+GHz would 4.5 be really stressful on my cpu? what overclock would you say is the limit before you start to stress the cpu ?
 
Download real temps, run prime 95 blend test and see what temps you get, aslong as temps are under 70 id say your fine, and 1.33 volts is fine for sandybridge.

Try overclocking with offsets though like the the other guy suggested, took me +0.035 offset to get stable at 4.4 ghz for a 12 hour blend test, i do not use LLC though.

Also what cooler are you using, i hope its not the stock one because 4.5ghz on stock cooler would be bit daft.
 
For a 24/7 overclock I always go with 10% over your base votage for your cpu. I'm on a customwater cooling loop and I stoped at 4.6ghz@1.32v for 24/7 use. But stable to me is Prime95 small for 24 hours. But I will feel ok to install windows or whatever and not worrie about bsod or any other failur. Or degrading the cpu over time because of to much voltage.

Good advice however you can certainly run higher 24/7. The Processor will utilize C1E and Speed Stepping and when not under full load will auto regulate voltage from 1.030'ish at idle 1600mhz to whatever base + offset you configured @ your desired frequency under load.

So technically with the appropriate setup you are running 4.x ghz about 10% of the time unless you are playing crysis 2 at max everything or encoding heavily for hours.

Even then it has been proven through the years that you will reduce the lifespan of your processor from i.e. 55years life to 45 years life. There are people still reporting that they run 486/DX4's overclocked 24/7 to this day. Why in God's good name they still do, I dont understand?

I am sure that you are going to upgrade before then.

I am an amatuer overclocker for sure but I just read a lot of stuff. Take what I say with a grain of salt and validate for your self.
