hi guys, im on the verge of upgrading my pc. one of my most needed upgrades is a new cpu cooler. i have been having severe overheating issues. my cpu reaches around 90-95 degrees celsius when i play a game and idles around 60-70. ohh btw i have an i7 920.

im not too worried about it because im upgrading my pc anyway and ill be getting a new cooler (going for the jing)
my only doubt is how reliable my current processor is.
after having had this problem should my cpu work perfectly with the new cooler and last me at least 2 years? is there any chance my cpu got damaged?
should i look into getting a new cpu just in case? ( i dont live in ths US and i have a lot of problems getting my hands on new hardware so when i get the chance i try to get all that i need.)
if so what solution would you guys recommend?

My question is...

1) How did you manage to get those types of temps?
2) Why on Earth would you continue to run it that way for 2 years and worry about it after the fact?

1) i have no idea. i have the stock cooler and i even cleaned it to remove dust.

2) i just recently noticed the temps. what i meant is that after i fix the heat issue would my CPU last me as long as it should or should i expect it to fail.
in other words, since i have the opportunity to replace it now should i go ahead and replace it as a precaution? or should it work properly after i replace the cooler?

i have an old alienware case. it only has 1 80mm fan.
i am also upgrading the case im getting a rv02 or a rv02-e if i can.
also, how much of an upgrade would a i7 950 be over an i7 920?

Not enough to warrant the price.

Your processor is fine, they have thermal protections in place that prevent the CPU from burning itself up.

Get yourself a new CPU cooler and you will be good to go.
