Im overclocking an amd barton xp 3200+
and I was wondering what the memory frequency should be for the processor...
it was originally at 100 mhz, but it was saying it was booting at 1200 mhz, so I upped it to 160..
now it says it's a 2700+ barton, but when I go to 200 mhz, it says its 2400 mhz.
Sooooo I don't know what a stable speed would be.
 
Barton XP 3200+ runs at a FSB of 200mhz. Its multiplier is 11, meaning 200mhz X 11multi = 2.2ghz operating speed. Are you sure its a 3200+ barton desktop chip, all the math in your post points to a multi of 12.
 
Positive it's a 3200+ barton chip... unless my friend screwed up, but, it should be set at 200mhz then, huh?
How do I overclock it then?

so, you were right, or someone was, the multiplyer was at 12, I put it at 11, and made my frequency 200.
I restarted, the computer couldnt get into windows, kept rebooting, so I went back into dos, turned it to "OPTIMAL" rather than AGGRESSIVE.
The computer rebooted, said the frequency was at 166!? :(
but, claimed it was running at a barton 3200+ speed.
I checked my system info in windows, 2.2ghz...
I wanna OC it, should I set the multiplyer to 12? and frequency to 200?
and what about the optimal / aggressive / other thing?
what should I set that to.
 
you're unlikely to get much of an overclock with that system.

A7N8X often does not even hit it's stock speed of 200 fully stable.

even if you had a better motherboard, it sounds like you have generic ram.

now........that processor is sounding really oddball. do you have the box? is that what it says on it? the desktop barton 3200 is a 200 FSB chip (DDR 400). the 3000 was made in FSB 200 and FSB 166 (DDR 333) versions.

if you really have a 3000, then 13x166 makes perfect sense.

now, what does CPU-Z tell you your processor is? set everything to stock speeds, and run the prog.
 
I installed my old fan, and now it's at 50 celcius, is this too hot!?
I have this program called speed fan, and it has a little fire beside the 50, I take it that's not a good thing.
 
Tell us what CPU-Z says your processor is, your confusing all of us and might be risking your processor without being 100% sure what it is..
 
Post a screen shot................ 2.2ghz/166mhz = 13.25, athlon does not support 1/4 multipliers, so i promise its not a barton 3200+ 333mhz chip. Also, give us the FSB, and voltage CPU-Z shows, or a screenie.................your temp is definetly high, not gonna kill it, but i've always went with the rule that never let an A-XP load over 50. Also if you get really brave you could remove the heatsink fan and read all the info off hte top of the processor.
