Built my first sytems based on a Asus a7n8x and a xp2500 barton+ a gig of cosair 3200 ram. Runinng everything at spec at present with ram synced. Since I use this box a little for my accounts and a lot for gibbing I would like to clock it a bit with out going to the edge and cooking it. Any advice very welcome,

ps. has anyone figure out a cure for the shutdown problems with this combo that does not require disabling agp to pci sterring as I am assuming this kills a agp card.:)

upping fsb to 200mhz to get your 2500@3200 is by far the most common "safe" clock for barton, you did not say if your cpu was unlocked too so i'll take for granted its locked if its new so there is not much to alternate then. Since those are corsairs though I'm guessing you should be able to push the fsb a bit if you really like ;)

Sorry to steer off-topic, but do you have any links to more information on this problem? I had the same combination with all sorts of problems I couldn't track down, and ended up sending it back to NewEgg for RMA. I'm currently awaiting new pieces, but I'm still puzzled as to what it could be.

yeh, what problem? Ive never heard of this.

i have my 2500 running at 3200+ speeds (2.21ghz) but i had to up the vcore to get it stable in prime. i guess that it is just a luck of the draw sometimes.

jackbauer, what is your vcore at? I'm trying to get my 2500+ prime95 stable at 3200+.

When I first built box it would shutdown fine but the prob seemed to start when I loaded nero & or IN Cd . did several reinstalls and each time nero etc seemed to screw it up. go to this page http://aumha.org/win5/ashtdwnxp.htm to establish what type of shutdown prob you have. some machines just keep booting other hang halfway on win shutdown. Mine gets right thru to a light blue screen-then I hold down power button for 4 seconds and the power shuts off. even a corrupted sound file on exit can hang a box. I dont have the skill or exp to tackle reg edits etc yet so I must admit I am looking for a easy fix but alas I dont think on exists. :(

I bought the Chip in aug03 but neglected to write down the number before installing-as putting on the heatsink clips freaks me out-screwdriver thru board syndrome-I am hesistant to look but will if need be.-in the bios i can change the fsb and multilier setting but have not tried to save same until I know what I am at . would this indicate if mine is unlocked -thanks for your advice:)

Change the multi(try like 10.5x, no biggie) and save, if it reverts back to default(11x) then you have a locked cpu, if not then you're in luck m8.;)
