overclocking woes...

im in the process of trying to overclock my new i7 rig (specs in sig) and i have a few questions and issues.

so my goal right now is to try and get 4ghz stable, so im in the process of running prime95. i noticed after leaving the rig running that the multi will drop to 12x from 20x but eventually go back to 20x while its priming, the test wont fail and temps arent too high on the cpu (75c max), BUT there is one temperature thats worrying me and is making me think that its the reason why the multi throttles, its the system temp, which im assuming is the PWM area or the northbridge, and its hovering around 84c right now.

so my questions to you guys are why does the multi throttle? whats the "system" temp and is it at a safe temp? would the overclock be considered stable if the multi likes to jump around but doesnt fail or bsod?

PS: also, im having some major overvolting issues with this board, i set the cpu vid to 1.275 in the BIOS and in windows it shows up as 1.344, some other things like to overvolt as well but not as dramatically.

yup, turbo,eist, c1e, theyre all off.

EDIT: turned PPM off in the BIOS (dont know what is it) but it was above turbo so i assumed it did something with the multi, seems to not be throttling anymore, will update.

EDIT: nope, took a little longer but it eventually throttled again.
