I want to OC my X2 4400 but is it worth trying with Value RAM? Is it even possible?

Sure its possible, worth a shot. I got my Corsair ValueSelect to 211FSB so far. No problems at all with it. Its running with a Celeron D 2.4@3.8

I've got 2 Corsair value selects stick that will are stable at 234 @ 2.5/3/3/5 1T

quadnad, could you explain regarding using a divider?
This should give you all the info you need to know about dividers. Essentially dividers allow you to run the RAM at a certain ratio versus the HTT speed. i.e. if you've bumped the HTT up to 300, normally if the RAM were running 1:1 it would need to be stable at 300, as it's running at the same speed as the HTT. However, lets say your RAM isn't stable at 300, but it is at 250. By using a 5:6 divider you're able to run the ram at 250 but leave the HTT at 300. This way you're able to get that nice overclock on your processor, and also maintain stability with your RAM.

It's also helpful to have some air blowing over the modules, even if you don't have heatspreaders.

its not necessary unless you are feeding it over 3 volts ;)

I put heatspreaders on them and my Zalman 7700 actually covers them.

The RAM you have does not really effect how far your CPU can overclock. Just run a divider.

Corsair value ram is excellent. I have gotten to 220 FSB on it at 2.5,3,3,8. Thats pretty decent for ram that costs about 80 bucks for 1 gig.

im going to be honest, it can depend on many factors, but it is possible that value ram can limit you. my friend got a msi neo2 plat and a 3000+ venice, 1gb of corsair valueselect. it absolutely refuses to post at 190-210mhz when using ddr333 divider, period. he has to run the ram around pc2700 speeds to be able to overclock. (using ddr266 divider and ~240fsb). throw my ram in there, itll run those speeds without a hitch. like i said, there are many factors, and in most cases it doesnt matter, but it CAN bite you in the ass. I say if you are getting a 4400 may as well drop a few extra bucks and get decent ram. -edit for my inability to type

Value ram here... more than happy with it. Slowly seeing if it can reach tighter timings.

On a side question - what sort of performance hit can you expect with using a divider?

Funny 'cause I have Corsair XMS Pro and it maxes out at 212MHz.

Gay.

I already have the 4400 and the Corsair Value, I'm acutally looking into some better RAM at this time, OCZ platinum or Crucial Ballistix. Depends what I can find at a good price/performance. I'm in the UK so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well I just ordered a matched pair of PC3200 Ballistix, 1Gb in total.

Now, the question is, if I put them in along side the current 2x Corsair Value, will this cause a problem?
