Now that I've finished HL2 on my home computer (btw the Radeon 9800 Pro did a tremendous job all the way) I've been thinking about installing and playing through the game in DX7 mode on my laptop (Dell Latitude 640C, 1.8GHz P4, 512 MB SO-DIMM 2700, Mobility 7500 32MB). This will make the forthcoming Christmas holidays, which are to be spent away with my family-in-law, a little bit more bearable.
The default core/RAM clocks on my Mobility 7500 are 230/340, while the regular 7500 is clocked at 290/460. I assume both cards have got the same chipset (RV200 core), and that the mobility version is downclocked in order to generate less heat.
Using omega drivers I've overclocked to 270/400 without artifacting in older games (CS:CZ, AvP2, Quake2...). Haven't noticed any difference in heat evolution, but then again the laptop is always running hot and running the fans at max speed when I play games on it. I'd really like run the mob7500 at these clocks or higher when playing HL2, but I don't want to burn the card or any other parts of the laptop as I also use it in my job.
Anybody with relevant experiences (good/bad) or comments? Should I take a chance and run oc'd or should I just leave the clocks at default settings?
