I recently picked up a e5 1650 I don't really intend on overclocking too much till I get round to upgrading my cooling

in the interim, I noticed that I can change the turbo-boost multiplier. Some of the programs I run (SOLIDWORKS STATIC STRUCTURAL FEA) are actually single thread only, which piqued my interest in this. I can't seem to find anything about this (increasing single thread processing speed)

has anyone ever just increased the turbo multiplier without full overclocking?

Increase turbo bins it's overclock, and that's how modern processors since Sandy Bridge are being overclocked, by just increase the CPU turbo boost multiplier. so yes, increasing the turbo multiplier is straight OC'ing, nothing wrong with it.
