Overclocking the XP 3000+

Pardon me if this has been brought up in this board already, but I have an AMD XP 3000+ and wanted to overclock it. I read the review and on the overclocking page, it talked about a hacked BIOS that allowed for the multipliers to be changed. Does this mean that I can use this BIOS version and be able to use the lower multipliers without having to attach a wire to two of the pins in the corner of the CPU?

The review is at

Thx for the welcome.

Not sure about your board. Just try it one step at a time.
Have you tried OVCLK as the stuff is?

Place your comp info in your profile so that when people read your post they will know whats what.

The multiplyer shouldnt be locked on that board, IF you have an Older Barton 3000+. A buddy of mine has the same board thats how I know. Oh, I hope your upgrading your card soon, that 4200 is kinda antiquated right now, a 6800nu would be an awsome upgrade for you!! You should be able to at least up that to 3200+ speed.

I got the board last June, so I don't know if it's locked or not. Is there a way to tell if the lower multipliers are locked? There is a way to unlock them, but it involves connecting these two pins on the CPU with an itsy bitsy piece of wire. I was just curious as to whether or not the hacked BIOS would unlock the lower multipliers without having to connect the pins. I haven't tried OCing it without unlocking the lower multipliers because I think it would call for some heavy duty cooling and I just wanted to up the frequency to 200 MHz but stay with the relatively same clock speed. I heard that having the FSB and the memory clock speed set to the same thing increases performance.

Just up it little and see if it works . Check your temps along the way.If it doesn't work your MB will lock and you'll need to reboot at worst you'll have to reset the cmos.
