overclocking the x1900xt

I successfully overclocked my x1900xt yesterday to 697/1600. But after getting lockups in games, i tried to oc again. I got an error in overdrive and was not able overclock to those sppeds again.

So what is a good utility that overclocks cards to safe settings? I noticed that ATI tools is not soo reliable when it comes to overclocking
 
I use the CCC, you have seen where your card is going to lock up, lower the clocks and try again...

funny thing is it overclocked to the max yesterday. But when i tried it again it locked up at 671. What gives?
 
I dont know what to tell you there, you could try using driver cleaner to totally clean out the driver and reinstall them...? sometimes is better than others I gusee.
