overclocking the x1800xt

The default clock speeds for the MSI RX1800XT are 621 MHz for the GPU and 747 MHz (1.494 GHz) for the memory. These are also the default suggested ATI clock speeds for an X1800 XT GPU.

The RX1800XT achieved a higher overclock than the RX1900XTX; we managed to get a 40 MHz GPU frequency increase but only a small memory increase. In the end, we managed to overclock the GPU to 661 MHz and the memory to 1.548 GHz.

I got mine to 690 and 1600 when i moved it up. the game plays fine but how come they said they could overclock it to 661 and 1.548.

is my 690/1600 not really running at it? i don't get why they can only do 661 and 1.548

everyone's overclocking results vary. some hardware overclocks better than others, i'd say you got a better overclocking video card. Same thing goes for CPU's, take my Opteron 146 for example, not everyone has one at 3ghz, some have more some have less. That and throw in other variables like ambient temp and voltage and you usually won't get similar oc's.
 
so if i put my settings at 690/800 and i don't get any crashing, then it's fully overclocked to that? cuz it says "requested" at 690 and 800, but currently at: 594 and 693.

basically, if it's set to that, is it really overclocked to that or is it just saying?

if it's set to that then it should be at that. what are you using to overclock? and if you're just in 2D the clock speed might be different than when you're running a 3D program. ATI cards usually will underclock if you're not running anything 3D.

edit: what you should try is open up a game, alt-tab out of it and then check your clock speeds to see if they changed to 690/800
 
i alt tabbed and yeah the speeds were overclocked, so i'm happy :D.

my card runs REALLY REALLY hot though, idle is like 67 degrees celcius =/.
