Mine won't arrive until Monday, but some of you may have received yours already. I'm hoping it overclocks a lot better than the 6870s since those seemed like they were maxed out. I've read in other places that CCC wont even let you hit 900mhz. Maybe some of you can post how high yours was able to go and what tools you used.

After we get voltage control, I certainly see the 6950 cards getting to 920-950mhz.
But we won't know until the proper tweaking tools come out.

*How* do you overclock the core to 950?
There's a numerical value you change in some preference file, "EnableUnofficialOverclocking" or something, which must be set to 1. But, don't quote me, my 6950 is still in the mail
.You can Vmod the card by removing 3 resistors with tweezers (the easiest hardmod ever) but we will eventually have some limited voltage control in software as well.
I do believe that's a 6970, due to the misreport of 1600 shaders. Either way, 950 with voltage control should be doable for just about every card, and 950-1k should be possible for a handful. I'm mainly excited for underclocking and low idle noise, as this will be the very first card I'm not water-cooling. My current 4870 idles at 200/325 and burns through more power than this card will use at idle, with stock clocks. I'm very excited to see how quiet I can get this thing.
I got my 6970 to 925/1425 and then ran into crashing issues/degraded performance in 3Dmark. I just use the Overdrive application bundled with Catalyst though it is capped to 950/1450 I think you can get around it if you use the Sapphire TriXX overclocking program instead. I haven't had a chance to use it since I need more volts.

Does the performance loss resolve if you back the RAM down to 1400, and ramp the core speed up?

yeah if your getting degraded performance jalidi it would be the ram since unlike GDDR3, GDDR5 doesnt artifact it just kills performance as it attempts to repair the errors.
That is good to know, I was wondering exactly what was the issue. That explains why those artifacts for memory problems weren't showing up in 3Dmark, and yet my scores were going in the crapper, I was completely baffled.
I'll have to rerun some tests with it at 1400 but it seems the performance peaks at 1425 and then takes a sharp drop after that. Needless to say, my sample shipped with practically everything already squeezed out of it! At least at stock voltages.
Maybe I should've gotten the 6950 which seems to overclock just as far but I would've missed out on the extra stream processors and such.

My bios flashed 6950 tapped out at 940mhz/1450mhz. I used furmark, Heaven, and 15 loops of crysis benchmark on very high 4xaa 1080p. At 950 I would get lockups and ctd. I never saw slow downs as I increased the memory clocks, but 1450 was the max in ccc.
