Overclocking the 5700 LE

I recently upgraded from a Geforce4 MX440 to a GeforceFX 5700 LE. I used to use Riva Tuner to overclock my video cards, but now that I upgraded to this new card, no overclocks are possible. One other side note is that I am also using a newer version of Riva Tuner, and a newer version of Windows (XP Professional as opposed to my old 98SE).

This time, the only overclocking options available are enabled through the software/drivers. And whenever I attempt to change the setting any higher than its defaults of 225 MHrz core clock and 400 MHrz memory clock, and test it, the screen goes screwy for a few seconds and it tell me the overclock isn't possible.

Am I doing something wrong, or does my card just plain suck?! It says itself that its a "lite edition". I could use any help I could get to squeeze more performance out of this card because the clock speeds its running at now are pathetically low in my honest opinion!

The 5700LE is notoriously.. garbage. A 6200 AGP would have been a better buy in hindsight, but, anyways. You have a lemon, and most 5700LE's are garbage lemons. Sorry.
 
It was still an upgrade though, from an MX440, right?

Yeah, kind of like how a Pentium 4 2.4 ghz is from a 2.2 ghz. Try to find a real world difference worth mentioning and win a prize!

Well, that's exaggerating. The difference between the 5700 and MX440 goes beyond speed. It also has a lot more features, though it won't handle much of next year's games.
 
I didn't think so... I'd pick up a 9800pro from ATi but I don't have that kind of money...

Well, live and learn. I got an FX5200 to "replace" my GF3 without doing research, and gee, the FX5200 was inferior. Luckily, CompUSA was willing to accept it and refunded me. So I didn't learn the hard way, per se. But I did learn.
 
So if I was to upgrade from my 5700LE, to a 9800pro, how much of a REAL-LIFE performance increase would I see? I play a lot of games.

Around 75% not to mention it can actually run dx9 without looking like crap.
 
did you try using coolbits to overclock the video card? some people had great success overclocking it. the 5700LE isnt too great of a card but if you only have a pci slot its the best you can do.

Since he said he could get to overclock settings via the driver controls, that implies that he installed Coolbits.

It sounds like that card just doesn't want to overclock.
 
Actually its running on an AGP 8x slot, and I'm using RivaTuner. Maybe I can try using some other program though? I'll look into this "coolbits" thing.
 
Ya but they don't ship all the way to here on the giant iceberg. I get my comp stuff from TigerDirect.ca.
