Hello all,

Please do not mind if this thread topic has already been dealt with because I am pretty new to this thread. First of all let me educate you about my rig.

Specs:
Intel core i5-2500k at Stock.
ASUS P8H77-V Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 Ram at 1333MHZ
Nvidia GTX 680 ( Palit GTX 680 Jetstream or EVGA GTX 680) buying soon...
Thermalright Silver Arrow 140mm Dual Fan Heatsink
WD Caviar Black 7200rpm 1TB HDD.
Cooler Master GX750 PSU
NZXT Phantom 410 Cabinet

Now I have to say that I was terribly disappointed when I eventually found out that my CPU cant be overclocked because of the damn chipset which is H77. Safe to say that was my fault to buy the motherboard without doing research as I thought H77`s would have the multiplier unlocked.:mad:...

I tried changing the base clock or BCLK in the bios but it is unstable above 108MHZ (3.9GHZ) which I am aware is too high for SB CPU`s. I also read threads saying that increasing the BCLK above the stock 100MHZ will have adverse effects on the hardware. Is this true?. The default multiplier is set at 33 and I cant change that. Now, my concern is, would I be able to get good FPS on games like Battlefield 3, Crysis 2 and the upcoming Crysis 3, MOH Warfighter and the like with this rig or would I have to change the Mobo for sure?.

I am on the lookout for a P8Z68-V Pro for my budget as the newer Z77 ASUS Motherboards are costly. But more importantly I am not sure whether I can sell my old Mobo as I am in India and selling is a pain in the a@@ :eek:. I am pretty sure that the CPU wont be a bottleneck for the GTX 680 even at stock speeds so the extra overclock wont affect FPS that much. Am I right?. if not please correct me. If I am not able to sell the mobo would I be ok with the H77 for another 2 years?.

Also I would like some suggestions about the model of the GPU. Is the Jetstream good for overclocking as it has huge fans!?. or is the EVGA better because of the brand?. I know that EVGA is No.1 in the Graphics card market but the EVGA Card is not factory overclocked and the Jetstream is . Should I choose performance over brand or the opposite?. Surely Palit<<< EVGA, but they are known to make good enthusiast GPU`s for sometime now. Please help me with all the queries :confused::confused:.... Sorry for the long post but I hope many are there like me :mad: and this thread would make you more aware when you plan on buying a new rig.

Your CPU's speed will factor into games performance a lot more at lower resolutions. If you're playing at 1920x1200 or something similar, it's not as much of a factor. The performance per clock rate of any recent Intel chip is insane, so I am betting it won't hold you back.
 
I have the same CPU, and personally I would buy a 670 or 7970 over a 680 for the value.

As for Palit vs EVGA, I would definitely buy the EVGA (assuming same or similar price), but I don't think Palit is a terrible brand or anything.

I agree with this. If cost is of concern, definitely consider the 670 or 7950/7970 over the 680. Especially if you are willing to overclock as you'll more than likely make up the performance gap between the 670 and 680.

I've heard good things about Palit's products but I have not looked into their customer service. EVGA is highly regarded for their service. Although, I have no idea if being in India makes any difference in that regard.

It would be best to be able to overclock that 2500K but I don't see it as extremely necessary. Then again, who knows what will be out in the next couple years that may push hardware of today to it's limits. I'd keep an eye out for a Z68/Z77 of decent price, though.
 
I chose the MSI card. I don't know anything about Palit, and EVGA is meh to me. I don't jizz at the mere mention of the name lol.
 
I have a friend selling a MSI z77A-GD55 for $100 if you're trying to get a z77 board without an arm and a leg. New in box too.
 
I Have a P8z68-v pro and I must say it is a nice board. I bought mine on ebay for $90. I think it would be well worth it to jump over to it considering the low cost.

Yes. It affects a lot of things including PCIe bus, integrated GPU and such. Dont touch BCLK, its not worth it and honestly it doesnt really add anything to your final OC, few MHz at best.

If you're on anything warmer than LN2 there's ABSOLUTELY no reason to touch BCLK. You can't max out IB's multiplier anyway.
The LN2 folk run into the max multi, so they tweak the BCLK (I think Asus's latest LHe endeavors have hit 63x114).
