overclocking.. stock hs/f?

I am purchasing the 3700+ san diego processor. I made a post a few days ago about whether or not to use the stock heatsink and fan; I was told that the stock hs/f are quite good. However, when I asked the question, I wasn't planning on overclocking. Now I decided I am going to OC, so should I go for a better heatsink/fan? If so, what should I get?
 
you should try to keep your questions in one thread since they are pretty much all related to each other...

but to answer your question, it really depends. i say adding .1 to .2 volts would be okay with stock or as long as the cpu stays under 60C load. some will say keep under 50-55 but really what you feel is right. these things are rated to run at 65c load if not 70c (its one or the other, i forgot)

also, getting an aftermarket heatsink will also benefit you as most are quieter such as the zalmans or with the popular xp-90, you can choose your own fan.

oh, and werent you going for watercooling? (i remember seeing your post in WC section) if you plan to OC soon, just hold off on higher overclocks and wait for your wc setup.
 
yea i was planning on going watercooling. oh wow, this is ridiculous, i must sound like an idiot, because i have no idea about the details of watercooling. do you not use a heatsink/fan, just a cpu waterblock??
 
yes, you just use a watercooling cpu block (with pump, radiator, etc) so it would be quite a waste to buy an expesnive heatsink and fan just so it could be replaced very soon after.
