Guys,
I want to oc my 9700pro. Please give me some suggestions to software to use. I know about pstrip but im not such a big fan. How is rivatuner? Any others to consider? This is one of the origional ati 9700pros what oc should i expect (about). Im at 15000 3dmarks (2001) now I report back results. thanks

I've got a 9600pro and I use RivaTuner, and I don't really have any problems with it. I only use the overclocking feature, which is pretty basic, but there are alot of other things on it that you could mess around with, I just never bothered looking. I used powerstrip at one time, and I wasn't really impressed. For some reason, If I would overclock using powerstrip, it would go all fuzzy, no matter what the increase, with Rivatuner, I've gotten so much more then what powerstrip was supposed to give me, and it runs great. And a word to the wise, if you've got a Sapphire Card, don't use Redline. I used Redline when I first installed my card, and my games were so sluggish, I wanted to put my Geforce 4 mx440 back in, it was just pathetic, but uninstalled Redline, and they work great now.

I can't seem to get ATI Tool to save my clock settings to apply at system startup. It always loads my x800 Pro to 422 core and 445 memory. That's even lower than default. Can anyone help?

I am trying to use radlinker right now. I don't know what the stock specs of a nonpro 9500 are though. Does anyone know what they should be? What I kind of range I can possibly get?

The readings are as follows when I first opened radlinker:

Core: 276.76
Memory: 270.00

Is that correct for stock?

I googled, but I guess I didn't google correctly.

I am sorry for the thread jack. I am trying out radlinker so I am in the same boat as you. I have used others in the past but nothing stands out as being the go-to program. Sorry.

ATiTool only works for ATi cards? Anyway, you can use coolbits-it's an overclocking tool that comes packaged in all nvidia drivers, although hidden. Google for it, and you'll find a way to unlock it.

He;s got a 9700Pro, i'm pretty sure coolbits is nVidia only. I unlocked it once before for my mx440, it works pretty well, and its not that hard, I just had to add something into the registry. If anyone is interested in using Coolbits though, http://oc3dmark.octeams.com/tip02.html is a place that did it with a Geforce 3, i followed the same steps with my old mx440 and it worked good. Don't bother with it for an ATI card, i recommend using Rivatuner, you can set it to use your settings when you turn the computer on, and when packaged with the new catalyst drivers, you can have recover on, so if the video card is ever having problems with your settings, it just sets it all back to default.

Do those of you that overclock nVidia cards prefer CoolBits or RivaTuner or something else? I've been using both to try and overclock my 5900XT and i've been getting some weird problems while using CoolBits. Do i need to somehow remove CoolBits when i use RivaTuner and vice versa or is it fine to have them both installed?

I would recommend using only one program to overclock your card. I don't remember if coolbits gave u the option of saving the settings for startup, but if you have two different programs trying to have your video card running at two different speeds, well, i don't think the results would be very good. I never really had problems with coolbits or Rivatuner, but i've never had two programs on at once. It could be possible that your coolbits value put into the registry isn't step up quite right, and a simple change might help out coolbits.

I'm just curious but is it possible that if you overclock using CoolBits the card might not perform as well as if it was overclocked using something else like RivaTuner? It just seems like it starts artifacting and locking up around 450Mhz using CoolBits but when i use RivaTuner it was running at 470Mhz just a minute ago. Maybe i need to do some more testing  .

coolbits is not a stand-alone OC utility, it is an nVidia-only overclocking option...it's something that the developers programmed into the nVidia drivers while they were toying with finding the clock speeds that their chips would run at, then they disabled them by default for the actual release of the nVidia drivers to keep people who didn't know what the settings were for from damaging their cards inadvertently.

probably the reason you're having problems on your ATI card with coolbits is because you need to totally uninstall your nVidia drivers before loading the ATI drivers, they don't like to play well together.

i don't use ATI cards, so i don't know what OC'ing utility to use, but i can pretty much guarantee that you will have problems if the nVidia drivers/coolbits are installed.

I dont think RivaTuner is even working because i just ran 3dmark03 with 4x AA at 500Mhz core and had no problems. Whats the deal here? I can't get anywhere close to that with CoolBits. I deleted the CoolBits registry entry and when i installed RivaTuner i saw that it added its own registry entry labled as CoolBits in the same place except for the number under modify was set to 2 instead of 3 with CoolBits. And when you install RivaTuner is unlocks the CoolBits clock frequency options under display properties.

Is there a utility that i can use to see what my 3d core speed is set at to make sure RivaTuner is even overclocking the core? I know it overclocks the RAM because i got it to start artifacting around 800-810Mhz. But i'm leaving the RAM at default right now and just trying to overclock the core to see its limit and i dont think its doing anything.
