Overclocking software?

Hey guys, if a BIOS doesn't have the options in it for overclocking, is there a program that can be downloaded to overclock through Windows? I know plenty of enthusiast boards have software like this, but I didn't know if there was a third-party program that would do it for any motherboard, kind of like how RivaTuner works for Graphic Cards. I am curious for something that would work for a Dell or Acer computer. Thanks
 
there is no all-encompassing overclocking software because there is such a large array of hardware configurations out there. generally if its not supported in the bios, that means the hardware also would not support overclocking. most generic dell or acer computers dont use high enough quality components to actually get any real gains from overclocking anyway. sorry.
 
just because the bios does not have OC Options does not mean you can not overclock it...... to the OP try setfsb or softFSB they work on a wide range of hardware all you have to know is what PLL is on the motherboard this is easy enough to find.

I use this on my acer laptop :D
 
Hmm, I'll have to check this out. I need to reformat my old laptop anyway, so if it screws things up, I could just reformat and fix everything.
 
So how do I find my PLL? Tried googling with no success. And I don't want to open up the computer. Although I have read lots of people talking about there good success with overclocking their laptops. So I'd be eager to try this out. Although I would probably only activate it when I am actually needing the power and I would get one of those laptop coolers.

what you are looking for is a Clock Generator / PLL you can look this up on the internet if the software supports the laptop. If you can not find the information on the net then the only way to find it is to open up the laptop
 
Ok good to know. One last question. What is good software for monitoring CPU and GPU temps? I always just use what came with my motherboard for my desktops. I've used PC Wizard, but I would like something with a graph so I can see its hottest temp.
