ok, I know people do this, but I know jack shit about it.

I havent seen an intel mobo that supported anything faster than pc3200 ram, and wanted to know if people overclocked the pc2700 -> to that speed, or overclock the pc3200 beyond the boards capability

that would be a good start.

PC 2700 runs at 166MHZ, PC 3200 runs at 200MHZ. Your memory usually (defaultly) runs at the same speed as your FSB, a 1:1 ratio. So on a 800MHZ FSB Pentium 4 (which is really 200MHZ FSB) your memory runs at a default speed of 200MHZ, 400DDR. On some motherboard you can change the ratio. You can adjust the ratio to make whatever is most stable. I use just a 1:1 ratio, because nothing else is stable. Higher rated memory is just rated to that speed, there's no guarantee of reaching it. I'm to friggen stupid to explain it any other way. If someone can explain it better, can you? I'm forgetting lots, i know.

This is a good start.Link There are a couple more articles on OCFaq that discuss overclocking RAM as well.
