Overclocking question

I wanted to ask the overclocking community a question please. Is there really a noticable differance in a game after overclocking a processor? I have certainly seen increases in benchmarks but I have always wondered if getting involved with a overclocked machine (time+money) for gaming was worth my while. Any advice is great.

Thanks in advance!

It depends on the game, such as Simulations that require many mathematical equations to be solved in order to model the dynamics (flight, damage, etc..) would most likely benefit. If you are playing at a high enough resolution, you take the CPU out of the equation (not completely) and rely more on your graphics card. If anything, I'd try simply overclocking that E8400 to 3.6GHz if you can achieve it on stock voltage (400fsb, 1:1 memory divider, 9x multi). That's what I do and it runs fantastic with little-to-no fooling around.

With an E8400, no you probably won't see any appreciable difference. But you should should at least see how high you can get it on stock HSF :D No reason not to, it's free!

Why would you make that E8400 cry by running it at stock?

Good observation UtopiA. I run it at stock I felt no reason to take a overclock risk without knowing more about the benefits or pitfalls of overclocking. Also it was affordable! :)

I am using a thermalright ultra 90 heatsink and artic silver 5 compound.
