In my BIOS theres no feature to adjust DDRAM FSB, the only thing I have is "Change Memory Frequency/Speed for" and the settings are adjustable from 1.33/1.66/2.0/auto.

When I overclock my CPU, it seems 2.0 matches the FSB while 1.66 and 1.33 are lower (thereby unsynchronizing the ram and cpu???). I also heard that 2.0 is the slowest setting, and it should be set as low as possible?

This setting is confusing me, as theres no way to directly change my memory frequency... only this setting which changes the memory speed for me.

Please someone shed some light on this.

The numbers you are talking about are dividers.

You cannot specifically set the speed that tyour ram runs at, just what ratio it runs at in relation to your FSB.

So why would i possibly want to desynchronize it by running it at 1.33 or 1.66?

say youre ocing your cpu from 2.0 to 2.5...your fsb would be 250 since the multi is probably 10 and that means your ram has to run at 250mhz (times two to make 500mhz). Your ram probably wont be able to do this, so you have to run a divider which makes your ram run closer to the 200mhz it is speced to do. So, your 250mhz fsb @ a 5/6 ratio = your ram running @ 208mhz.

Well JC will running a divider unsynchronize my FSB speeds and cause a slowdown?
I ask this because I've got one hell of a HSF on my 3.4 prescott and I know i can get it past 4.2 or more, but my RAM is only DDR3200 and it's somewhat slow. It's been the limiting factor so far, anytime I go past 3.8 it gets unstable.

loosen the timings, and run it asynch, no big deal since its intel. I shudder to think what kind of heatsink you have that is sure to hit 4.0+ on air...

Also I have a Gigabyte GA-8IG and so far in BIOS i haven't been able to find any voltage control to raise voltage levels. This might be due to it being a socket 478 but i'm not sure.

Yes, I did open up the advanced menu (ctrl f1), but they aren't in there either.

Fans an alpha right now my CPU is running at 28-30 idle 35 or so under load @ 3.85. So i'm sure theres room for improvement to at least past 4.0. I don't know if BIOS is automatically raising my voltage or if it's OC'ing on stock voltage. If it is that might account for the low temperatures.

i would try to help, but im not to familiar with the intel platform. Ask (cf)eclipse
