So i am TOTALLY NEW to overclocking, but it seems that might be a nice way to get some more speed out of my system instead of buying a new CPU.

I have a Gigabyte DS3P and the Q9300. I use a HD2600 Pro video card and just ordered 2 kits of G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ

i have a stock HS fan and another aftermarket one, Artic Freezer Pro 7.

NOTHING is currently overclocked at all.

Where do I start? Can I get a modest overclock without changing much with the vcore or voltages or whatever else I need to change?

I am not looking to push it hard (I need it stable for a long time), but just more than stock.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks
Ryan

thanks man.

So with the Ram I have do I need to change anything is all I guess I am worried about. It's not FSB 1800 ram so will i have the change the timings on it? My MB only does 1200 anyway so the 1800 isn't possible anyway.

Thanks again for the assistance and links

ignore the memory stuff in those reviews.. they used ddr 3 motherboards.. just set your ram to 1:1 timing or the lowest possible setting you can put it.. ddr2-400 or 2.00 depending on the boards options..

it will take the memory out as being the bottle neck of the overclock.. once you get the overclock to what you want and the temps are all good.. then go ahead and bring up the ram speed back to ddr2 800..
