I have a 2.4C @ 3.0 (250FSB) right now. The memory im using is 512x2 Corsair XMS DDR400. For some odd reason i cant get past 250 FSB without it kicking out. I have it at a 3:2 Ratio in the bios but even if i drop it lower it still wont go past 250. I had the same ram but in 2x256 modules and it let me overclock to like 280-290. whats going on with this?

could be that the mobo just can't handle anything faster. in the pc modder issue of cpu mag, they tell a lot how they couldn't get past 215mhz. i guess if you go any faster you get emi.

might increase vcore tho... that can help tho i'm told (same source: cpu mag) that you shouldn't push it past a certain voltage, i think they said 0.2v diff was the top but i honestly do not remember

i don't overclock as i have nothing really worth it except my laptop :( but that heats up my dorm so much i'd probably cause a fire if i tried to overclock it.

nah tried all that. even set it really high. I even tried using SPD timings, but still nothing. The one thing that i dont get is that at 250FSB @ 3:2 ratio its only DDR400. When i set the ratio @ 1:1 it wroks fine when i push it to 215-225. That tecnically makes it DDR450 @ 225. This means the ram can go faster and i already know my cpu can hit 3.5GHz stable on air. So im totally lost.

Corsair XMS Platinum Heat Speaders PC3200 DDR400. Timings are 2.5, 3,3,8 @ 200Mhz (DDR400).

hmmm... i was expecting to hear kingston or samsung.

btw, i have yet to understand ram timings and what they mean so the #'s mean little to me (saareeee but true)

official diagnosis from the n00b who has never o/c'd:
you probably have reached the limits of your mobo's performance. a gigabyte mobo may get you a little faster in the performance dept., but the new 915/925 chipsets are made for more speed and you will definitely get more out of them. pity they cost so much tho.

nah my boards perfect for overclocking. im not a gigabyte fan. but oh well. im gonna get DDR550 soon anyway. That will make things perfect. 275MHZ bus on 1:1 ratio. god cant beat that
