hey guys i have this board and i'm still new to overclocking and had one question

i have a x2 3800+ which is stock at 2GHz and corsair pc4000

when i choose to go over 400MHz on my ram i all of a sudden can't overclock my cpu, it defaults to auto, then when i change the cpu settings, the ram goes back to 400

i would ideally like to put my ram at 500MHz, which is what pc4000 is and also overclock my cpu to about 2.4 or 2.5 (240MHz and 250Mhz respectively).

is this normal behavior for a mobo, or is the asus just that bad?

TIA

I had wonderful luck on my SLI Premium. Stable overclock, locked buses = destroyed C:\ partition. I enjoy not having a chipset fan more than the extra megahurtz tho

In your case, no, that is not normal. What BIOS are you using? Try 1007 or above.

I am also currently having this same problem. I have Crucial Ballistix PC 4000 but when I try to put it at 500mhz in my BIOS it keeps resetting itself and throwing my FSB up to 250. Shouldn't I be able to control both seperately? I am also a Overclocking NOOB!!!

the actual speed in that screen is not the speed of the memory but the ratio for cpu to mem

so 400 is 1:1 and 333 is 4:3

Alright, that makes sense...but I have also just purchased 2 gb(1gb x 2) Crucial Ballistix PC4000 but it seems to have errors when I try to run it. It seems to fail memtest if I try to put it any higher then 200mhz. I thought this ram was guaranteed to go 250mhz? I just want to get to 230mhz as I am still on a stock HSF for my x2 4400. I do not think it is heat as my load temps are 35-40c idle and 56c full load (those temps are after overclocking to 2.6ghz). Due to the high temp during load I have no intention of upping it till I got a new HSF.

I put everything back to stock but left the DDR voltage at 2.8, as I have read the memory seems to like it. If I keep getting errors should I up the voltage or place an RMA? Should i try placing a fan over my ram? I already have five, 4 exhaust and 2 intake. Would placing another intake or exhaust over the ram help at all? Also, what timings are best for this ram? I seem to see alot of different opinions. Now, I know that I should find that out but I just need something to let me know my memory isn't bad. Should I try relaxing them even more?

Also, my stock temps are 35c idle and 45c load
