overclocking on Neo2 plat

well i see everyone running 250fsb on neo2's all the time. I assumed that everyone was running dividers so the ram was running at 200fsb, but on my buddy's neo2 i dont see any such divider. Im totally lost on what im supposed to do, hes running neo2 plat, 3000+ which i was hoping to get to 2.25, corsair xms3200c2 ram which isnt the best but definetly not bad. Anyone have any tips?
 
I was a little stuck on where the divider was listed myself. It took some looking, since it isn't clearly labeled "divider". Heck, it isn't evne labeled as a ratio.

Go under the DRAM settings for your memory. The maximum memory clock value (or whatever it is labeled) indicates what your divider is. If your cpu is at 200, for example, and your memory is at 166, you are running at a 5/6 divider.

Another thing: when overclocking, you will probably need to lower your HTT to 300 or so. This is crucial.
 
yeah i was really hoping to be able to run a 4:5 divider so the ram could stay at 200 so i wouldnt have to worry about overclockin it even a little bit

Your xms memory is not bad, but when running substantially higher than default FSB you have to relax your memory timings. I don't think any memory can run at 250FSB at default memory timings. Not sure what the default timings are for 3200c2 but if you search the web for "xms 3200c2 overclocking memory timings" or similar, I'm sure you can find some suggested settings.

Using dividers is a last resort since it does make your benchmarks slower; AMD chips don't like memory dividers other than 1:1

This was true on the athlon xp's, with the memory controller integrated into the northbridge. With the on-die memory controller of the athlon 64, however, using a divider does not bring a performance hit.

not to mention that i have done testing and showed that 183mhz ram is only ~2-3% slower tham 220mhz ram at the same cpu speed :D

Wow, thats it? I thought that ~40 mhz increase for the memory would yield at least 5-10% increase in speed. I'll need to keep this in mind when I go for my max o/c. :)
 
well we ended up gettin it to 2.25 on stock voltage but decided to not overclock the ram. setting the proc to 2.16 240fsb and running the ram at 200fsb, with everything on stock voltage were still running prime, goin on 12 hours now. thx for the help guys
