Hey, I need some help overclocking my CPU on my XFX 780i.
I was going to change the FSB to 400 and the CPU multiplier to 7.5, but in the BIOS it says it only goes up to 7. Now I have no clue how to update the BIOS. My "friend" was trying to tell me how, by mounting the ISO file to disk and booting off it. But I have no disks and he reckons you can somehow boot it off the disk you mounted the file to.

So I suppose I'm asking 2 Questions.

Is there any way to OC with only using a 7x multiplier and reaching 3000Mhz I wanted to keep a 1:1 ratio aswell.

Or does anyone know how to boot off the mounted disk through daemon tools. (I just mounted it to E:, so it's not on a CD)

It might help if you list your CPU and RAM specs. I know most of the Intel cpus are locked multipliers, unless you bought an Extreme chip. You can go lower multiplier but not higher than the listed. For example, my E6550 is locked at 7x, but I can choose to go 6x if I wanted to, but not 8x.

1) you can just increase the FSB to 430mhz x7 to get 3 ghz. So your ram would have to be able to do 430mhz as well.

2) I don't think you can boot off daemon tools, because the virtual drive doesn't exist until you boot into Windows. Its not actually a CD drive, all the programming that makes it virtually exist is loaded during windows, so to boot off it, you'd need some way of informing the BIOS, which isn't possible as far as I know. Your best bet would be to get a USB key, load a bootable image with your bios update on it and then setting your motherboard to boot USB devices before your HDD.
