Overclocking not increasing performance.

I have a 7900gt and i can get it reliably overclocked to 549/748(1496) but I get no performance increase, it's almost exactly the same. I'm running a x2 3800 @ 2.57, and I know that it's gimping my performance somewhat but could it really have that serious an effect? Does anyone know what could be going on?
 
What are you using to test performance. Just saying there's no increase doesn't really give alot of detail. Are you running any benchmarks, playing games, etc? There are some games that are more cpu dependent then gpu and so won't show an increase with an oc'ed card. Also, did you test from stock speed all the way up to those speeds since even tho it's not artifacting or crashing it could be throttling back due to heat.
 
Could it be a situation where you have VSync enabled and your monitor set to a low refresh rate? I don't know if that would be a framerate limiter for certain or not...
 
its that way in all the game benchmarks I own, fear, hl2 ep1, lost coast and doom 3. I havn't been able to 3dmark it because I can't run it, some dll got replaced or something.
 
Prob vsync making you think performance is bad. Turn it off, as well as turning off temporal antialiasing (TA forces vsync on).

You can also enable triple bufferring for OGl games to overcome vsync issues.
