Well I just got an athlon 4200+ x2 and Ive been overclocking it slightly, (still waiting on a new heatsink), and today before going to work I ran orthros (dual prime95) on blend, I set it to 2600mhz, 1:1. Before you ask, the memory isn't, or shouldn't be the cause, since ive gotten it stable all the way up to 265mhz before, so I was fine there.

I had upped the voltage slightly from default to 1.375v (reads out as 1.34 in bios), I left my computer on and what not, I come home, my computer has frozen after 2 hours 10 minutes of prime 95, both cores were stable, according to smart guardian at the time of the freeze up, my cpu was at 49c (normal) pwmic was 51c which was in the red but isn't extreme, and the chipset was 52c (its been higher)

I don't think its the psu, because if that was the problem, it would of shut down or rebooted the computer (or thats what usually happens), and I don't think the chip failed on me because it made it thru over two hours of orthros. I also don't think its the psu because It made it thru overnight while running gpu and cpu folding @ 2550mhz.

Any ideas?, could the mobo be going bad?.

The blend test of orthos stresses the cpu and ram. Probably a memory timing off on the modules. The easiest way to sort it out is by using memtest from a bootable media. I usually
use a looped test 5 and push the ram to the max mhz until errors are around 50 or so. Tweaking timings under these conditions allows me to see immediate results regarding changes to the ram timings. Either errors decrease slightly or increase dramatically and that will signify whether the change was positive or not. This method has helped me iron out many O/cing woes but don't expect your cpu to be able to max mhz and ram simultaneously. My experience has been that max prime stable ram speed is approx. 10 mhz lower than memtest max.

X2 are not made to be overclocked like the Core 2 Duo. 2.2ghz to 2.6ghz is a lot for amd X2. Don't expect to get more or to be stable at this range. If it freeze that mean its not stable.

That's not true, I've seen many 3800+ get to 2.5 and higher easily from 2.0.

Well I managed to get thru a night of cpu/gpu F@H at 2600mhz, with the pwmic and NB temps off the map so heat isn't the issue. I will look into the memory issue, but it seems a bit odd, im using the same timings that I used which tested out fine at 250mhz which im using atm at 236 in order to hit 2600mhz.

2.6 ghz isn't hard to achieve with any x2, especially the newer ones, just depends on what you got for overclocking it.

I've seen some very good numbers from many X2's and my 165 Opty runs 2.88Ghz w/ram at 262 3,3,3,8. I know about the difference between AMD and Intel. I actually prefer the IMC chips as I have much more control of how the chip runs but the the extra cache and high FSB of the Core 2 was just too tempting to pass up. Intel finally started listening to the enthusiast sector and it's a great success. None can deny that.

I had my 3700+ up to 2.75Ghz.. and now my Opty 175 is running at 2.82Ghz.

I had to back down from 283x10 to 282x10 because my computer was rebooting every couple of hours during heavy gaming... and it is not the temps... my PS does have one blown capacitor, so that is probably it... just don't have the money to replace it or the patience to fix it right now.... I will probably end up fixing it and putting a much bigger capacitor in place of the one that is blown.

My theory is.. if it broke, it wasn't good enough in the first place!

Well I just finished 7hours 30 mins of orthros @ 2706 mhz @ 1.34v, this chip is a monster, its not even hitting 50c core temp. I am really wondering if your psu is fried, since its basically the same one as mine, but mine can handle this chip, and yours is rebooting.

I can't wait till I get my ultra 90 in the mail, I still need to find a new chipset cooler.
