HI all

I recently purchased some OCZ PC3200 RAM, and so I have been slowly working on overclocking my P4 2.4B rev C1. Currently I am running at 2.7GHz, with my ram at 187.5. The odd thing is that I am not seeing an increase in temperatures! I am using the p4 HSF with 2 case fans in front and 2 on the side blowing in, and 2 in the back venting out plus the PSU.

With this setup, I am running at 32C for the CPU at idle and around 45C under load. Does this seem right? I would've expected higher temperatures with only the stock HSF. My ambient room temperature is about 25C and the MB is at 30C.

If these temperatures are right, I should be able to get quite a bit more out of this CPU.

Any thoughts?
 
Have you had to up your voltage any? If not, then I would say that's why it's still running nice and cool for you.
 
No, I am still using the stock voltage. :)

I can't even imagine how high I would get this thing OC'd if it wasn't summer. :eek:
 
Sounds about right to me. The heat seems to esclate up as you progress somewhat exponentially on voltage and speed than linearly when its about to top off. Now question is... how the hell are you getting the memory speed with such a little OC'ing? Even 1:1 would dictate nearly 3.4ghz oc'ing? Does P4C800 support 4:5 or something? Don't quite remember... my last P4C800E Dlx was about 6 mos old anyway.
 
Yes, this mobo supports 4:5. :) So my ddr400 is actually running BELOW its normal speed.
 
I had a 2.4b C1 stepping and it would clock at 3.3Ghz on Air. Don't remember what voltage though....but it didn't run exceptionally hot either.

now I have a 2.8c that clocks at 3.78Ghz on air. not a bad upgrade IMO :p
 
with both the 2.4b and 2.8c my load temps are around 55-59c (depends on the time of day. The room my computer is in gets hot in direct sunlight...damn crappy insulation!). System temp is 30c, idle temp is 38c.

Cooler is a Vantec Aeroflow w/tmd fan. Not the best and certainly not the quietest....but it does the job for now.
 
55-59C??? Is that ok? I just upped my OC to 2790MHz, and now I am geting 33C idle and 51C load. This is with the stock HSF and stock voltage. I am scared to go higher!!!!! 51C seems so hot.

I wouldn't get worried unless it got over 60c. P4's start thermal throttling at 70c.

Besides, if you've got a better cooler than mine, I wouldn't even flinch.

LOL, its your AI7. Mine reads CPU temp tad high too.
 
I've got a 2.4B C1 with the same vantec aeroflow 70mm TMD setup he mentioned, my overclock is PSU limited at where it sits in my sig. This board was touted at 183+ FSBs, even by anands, and the ram is cleary pulling its end of the bargain too, tho I could use some BH5 so I could run the next higher multiplier.

Nice chips tho, eh?
