overclocking memory latency vs fsb

I tried doing a search on the forums but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm planning to get an Opteron 165 with a8n32-sli but a lil confused about what memory to buy. Would I see better performance with high FSB and low latency or the other way around? Mostly be used for gaming. I guess as an additional question, under which applications would each situation (high FSB/lower latency or low FSB/tighter timings) be better for? Thanks for all your help.

if you want best memory you need to know what the ICs are not the ratings really

e.g corsair has TCCD dimms binned as their XL and C25PT ranges (all are TCCD) but also in some of their other slower chips that if you could find them would handle the same speeds

TCCD are the fastest with fairly good timings
BH5, if you put lots of volts through them, can usually hold 2-2-2-5 at higher speeds than anything else
UTT im fairly sure is the new BH5 which is almost as good as the classic (correct me if im wrong)

as for what to set it to, games tend to benefit from low timings and heavy stuff like video editting benefits from high bandwidth... seeing as youve got an X2 opteron that should be good at both once youve clocked it up, you might want to find a happy medium e.g dont go above 2.5-3-3-6 and put it on as good a divider as it will hande like that

I just upgraded system memory from 2 X 512 to 2 X 1024, both running 250MHz memory speed:
- From: 2 X 512 Patriot XBLK @ 250MHz @ 2.5/3/3/7 2T.
- To: 2 X 1024 GSkill DDR500 @ 250MHz @ 3/4/4/8 2T.

As expected, Sandra memory benchmark reports slightly lower memory bandwidth for the GSkill at higher latencies, but SuperPI 1M benchmark finishes in 31 seconds for either memory kit. I can't 'feel' any difference in performance in real-world performance.

Between memory speed vs memory latency choices, I'd choose memory speed over latencies.

Hope this helps!
