i just got a new barton 2500+ today and i was thinking aobut overclocking it, the only thing that im worried about is my pc2700 ram. Its OCZ pc2700 ram, but cpu-z says its pc3200. would it be best to increase the fsb or multiplier in this case?
well i think the highest it will go right now is 11x191fsb (2.1ghz), not bad with pc2700 i guess. its still running very cool 35°C (bios), my room is a blistering 13°C . Now i think i will try to lower my memory timings, right now they are 2.5-3-3-7. hopefully i can get it does to 2cas.
running the chips at 2.8v right now i think, i tried increasing it to this to see if i could pass memtest86, but no go. it hangs on test 5 every time. i think im going to go back to my 2-2-2-6 timings and just increase the fsb until it cant go anymore, than stop. they do have heatspreaders also.
Test 5 is a common test to error out on in memtest86, but still be 'stable'. Some AMD setups never pass test 5, not sure why, but it's in their FAQ.
I'd also try running a 2-2-2-11 timing, it's a quirk about the nforce2 chipset (assuming yo'ure running an nforce2 board) that it actually runs FASTER at 2-2-2-11... give it a try
well i just settled on 2.1Ghz, 11x191fsb. 2.5-3-3-11. i couldnt make it any tighter with my ram, im gonna need to get some pc3500 soon anyways for my amd64.
