Overclocking - Instability @ 166 FSB

Calling all AMD OC gurus!

So here are my system specs:
Thoroughbred 1800+ (unlocked from 12.5 down)
Epox 8RDA+ (nForce2, not sure on the rev)
2x512 Kingston RAM (KVR333X64C25)

I'm trying to get my system to run at 166 FSB. I'm testing for stability by using a little memory tester called "memtest". I found that with both sticks of RAM installed, and the system running at 9x166 (slightly underclocking my chip), I get some memory errors. Testing the sticks of RAM individually, I found that one (I'll call it "A" could handle my t-bred at 166, while the other ("B") would report errors (in memtest) after just a short time.

I immediately assumed that the stick that failed was bad, but did a little more testing to be sure, because I didn't want to send it back, get another one, and still have the same problem. At 133 FSB the stick called "B" will never report errors in memtest (well at least after several hours of testing), even with the multiplier raised from 11.5 to 12.5. If I run the my processor at 133 and my memory at 166, memtest still did not report an error. Finally, I put stick "B" in a nForce2 system with a 2500+ and tested it quite awhile, again without errors!

I'm confused at this point. I have heard some people mention memory with "BH5" chips, but I don't know anything about that, and I didn't see "BH5" on the chip, just "H5", that was part of a long number on the chip.

Any input would be appreciated. :confused:
 
Thanks for the suggestion. I realized that I didn't mention the voltages that I was running.

The CPU is 1.5 by default.
RAM is 2.6, again by default.
I don't recall the Northbridge voltage.

When Mattsmall suggested 1.7, I assumed that he thought my default voltage was 1.65, so I upped my voltage by the same suggested increment, (.05 Volts) to 1.55. I ran memtest overnight and the frequency of errors was greatly reduced, but it still reported a problem.

I feel like an overclocker wannabe. Should I just RMA the memory? :(
 
well you can try to change the ram voltage to 2.7 and since you cant change the norh bridge voltage you could try a vmod. after i did my north brigde volt mod i could go up to 234x2 fsb, and try another .025 or another .05 on the core you got to play around alittle bit to make an overclock stable.
