Overclocking GPU and USB?

Is it worth OCing your USB ports? I used to game pretty competitevly and one of the players on our team suggested we all OC our USB ports for smoother mouse transactions. I reformated and did some big upgrades to my computer so I no longer have that OC but is it worth doing it again? Any big pros/cons?

What about OCing my Graphics card? 7600 GT KO.
Will it be hard? Is it worth it? How much more can I get out of it?

what? overclock your what?

are u sure u don't mean FSB instead of USB???

As funny as it may sound, overclocking your USB ports is possible and people "overclock" their standard mice to increase the polling rate.

You might notice a tiny difference in movement with your mouse. It might also change how your other devices function, but usually it won't harm anything.

Here's all the info you need:

Your 7600GT KO should overclock nicely. Download RivaTuner 2.0 for OCing your card. Look at reviews for your specific card and take a gander at the results that others have achieved to see what you can expect (stable GPU and memory clocks).

cool now i have 3 things to do when I get home from work

1. watch heroes
2. install my new hsf for my video card
3. check out this whole USB overclocking thing.

would this also work for logitech gamepads (not that I have noticed any lag)...

+1. I don't think your mouse is going to come CLOSE to using 480Mbps! You'd be better off buying a good mouse...

Well I have a Logitech G5 and a Zboard Merc Gaming keyboard. They're both USB.

I was thinking if I OCed my USB there would be less of a delay in movement.

When someone says something like

"I got my 7600Gt to 630/800" what does that stand for? Coreclock/Memory?

My 7600 GT KO comes 580/1500 stock I think.

Be my guest to. If it gets your rocks off, have fun man!
I just honestly don't see two input USB devices using a combined 480Mbs, let alone any "better" movement/input from overclocking.
I'd love to see pre-overclock and post-overclock I/O rates for proof of improvement.

It's core memory, but you have to keep in mind that the memory speed you see is doubled what the clock there is. You're sitting pretty at 580/750. Crank that out

dude, i'm almost tempted to try overclocking my bios, maybe it will help the computer post faster....

i'm just kidding, i've never heard of usb overclocking. try firewire if usb's not fast enough

What a really good thing to do is overclock your harddrives. No, I'm actually serious about this. I've got my 7200rpm WD's running at 8450rpm. Gets you a nice performance boost without having to upgrade to Raptors.

You have to download a third party program to do it. Here's a link that tells about it.

Whoops, my bad...

have you ever experimented with overclocking your psu from 120V to 220V? does doubling the power frequency like almost mean doubling the computer speed?

i know i'm being a jack@$$, but its late and i find this humorous

ok, im gonna disregard the whole 'lets OC my usb ports' part and skip to the important stuff.

im pretty sure that 7600 has a little overclocking potential.

i had an xfx 7600GT XXX card and managed to take it to 655mhz core and 850mhz (1700mhz) mem on air, i was pretty pleased.

Well in Team Fortress 2 a few days ago it froze up on me and the screen was a bit distorted. There were multi colored "slashes" on it about 1/4 an inch. It wasn't a constent patern.

Now I also had the same problem 2 days ago in bioshock. It happened both times I tried to run it but one was in the first 2 minutes of the and the other was around minute 8.

No joke, but increasing the frequency of your USB ports does actually often make a huge boost in mouse performance, but, this varies from mouse to mouse.

Pfft. Overclocking your CD-ROM drive is where it's at...get up to 58-60x or so, and transfer rates are awesome. Here's an informative guide. Just up the rpm until a CD shatters and explodes.
Then back off a notch or two.;)

actually... a long long time ago in the distant past of Winblows... maybe 95/98...

there was a way to "overclock" your PS/2 port to help your mouse be more responsive. it was a little program, but it made one hell of an impact in accuracy.

Today, we have USB mice... mice with incredible DPI and feedback to and from the mouse to the computer. So fast that odds are your ARM is the weak link.

Jeez overclock the USB ports, there's not enough data there to max out USB 1 spec, let alone USB2 spec. Second, if you do anything to mess with the USB frequency you run the risk of wrecking your windows install or the least cause BSOD.

It's not overclocking the usb it's simply increasing the windows polling rate at the hub and yes it gives minimal advantage in FPS games.
