Overclocking for Dolphin

I am currently running at stock speeds but would like to start using the Dolphin emulator. I have the following setup:

Intel Core i5-750 Lynnfield 2.66GHz
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7
GIGABYTE GA-P55M-UD2

What should I aim for in order to maximize performance while not sacrificing any stability?
 
I haven't used Dolphin but I have a 750 and it does 3.2GHz at stock volts, and your RAM will be at exactly 1600MHz. If you don't want to bump voltage, try that, and if it's acceptable, hurrah. If not, maybe 3.8GHz with a slight voltage bump. I can't imagine it needing more power than that, but my imagination isn't that creative anyway. :p

BTW did you buy the combo deal Newegg had back in '09-'10 that included those items (minus the 212+)? I have the exact same setup, including the cooler.
 
Nah, I think I bought everything separately. What's the downside to bumping voltage? Increased heat?
 
dolphin ate my phenom ii 925 alive. lol

your i5 should be able to handle a good bit. Some games will run slow no mater what, it's kind of pot luck.
 
I run my i7 920 at 4.2 ghz. A Phenom II at 3.7 ghz didn't cut it at all, which was the main cause of my jump to an i7 system from a Phenom II. I would say you would want to aim for at least 3.5-3.6, and go for 4+ if you can. Of course, this all depends on the resolution and details you play at.
 
Overclocked to ~3.4 gHz and was able to run Super Mario Galaxy 2 at essentially full speed. Thanks! :D
 
Wait until you get to Super Smash Bros with the larger maps :p
