I just attempted to overclock my CPU and RAM on my ASUS P6X58D-E using one of the built in configurations D.O.C.P. But as soon as the computer rebooted it said overclock failed and I had to change the setting back to normal. I am running an I7 960 with DDR3 1333 RAM. Any ideas what went wrong or what I should do differently?

Make sure the program is not trying to overclock the frequency. Only bump up the multiplier for the CPU. Depending on what speed you are looking at, you may have to start playing with voltages. I wouldn't try the to OC the RAM until you get a stable OC on the CPU, otherwise you will have no way to know what is causing the problem.

Search the forums. There should be some posts regarding OC on that chip.

The 960 is locked multi; the only way to overclock is to raise the base clock.
Don't use the auto feature; manually tweak it.
