Overclocking emachine w2040

I know there is probably no way to but does any one know how to overclock an emachine w2040 or do they know what kind of mobo is in it, and what is the highest proccessor it supports is? (has xp 2000+ in it right now)

As to overclocking, don't hold your breath. Manufacturers of OEM PCs have discovered that by removing the options within BIOS that allow for overclocking and performance enhancements, they can save a huge amount of dollars annually on tech support. They use a modified BIOS that takes away the ability to make the changes necessary to overclock. Plus with the stock heatsink and the poor airflow inside of the emachine cases it would be hard to overclock because of the heat.

As for the motherboard... it appears you have an FIC AM37 motherboard (or eMachines variation of it). This page has the maximum processor support for that board. It appears you maximum processor would be the XP 2600 Thoroghbred (not the Barton).

If you want to have the options to be able to overclock your computer, it is generally best to build your own custom system. It's not as hard as you might think and the web is full of information on how to build your own.

thanks for the info dustmite, this is not my main system just one I aquired and was wondering what \i could do to speed it up, I finally found that same info last night after searching around forever

wow thats crazy cuz i also aquired an emachine W2247 and i put an xp 2700+ in it w/ a gig of ram but it only reads as a 2100+ me being unaware that the emachine boards were cpu specific so ill just have to get a new board and sit back and witness the full potential of what amd power can be lol :cool:
 
is the 2700 a barton or thoroughbred, I read the am37 (our mobo) will support up to a 2800+ with a bios flash, other wise only to 2600+ but I am not clear weather it will take a barton or not
 
its an thouroughbred core and if thats the case tell me what i should do cause im all bout getting my 2.4ghz i paid for im runnin at 1.72 ghz ;)
