Overclocking e6420 / eVGA 680i SLI

I just got the rest of my components together, put everthing together, and here is what I have so far. Without a lot of voltage I'm having a lot of trouble in getting the clock high and running orthos for more then a few minutes. At 1.55Vcore and 3.6Ghz I can't boot into windows, or at least if I can I'll BSOD after a few seconds of orthos.

I have a couple of questions... I have Vcore set to 1.55v in the Bios, but it is reading 1.238 in CPU (under load), is that normal? How do my load temps look? I haven't really started to touch the memory, is that what I should do next. I realize I haven't run a long Orthos yet--- but I'm impatient. Should I tighten the RAM timings, or increase the speed?

I think 3.6 might be a bit of a stretch for an E6420...there are some folks getting that, but its not that common that I'm aware of......Try 3.2..see if thats any better....then go up slowly...3.3 might be a more attainable goal..

What type of cooling are you using............???

Most of the real high clocks are being done on water..

I have 3.5GHz (437.5x8) with the RAM running 1:1 @ 4-4-4-12 / 2T. CPU-z says 437.5 MHz for the ram, shouldn't it be 875MHz?

I've been running Orthos blend now for 1 hour and 6 minutes without any problems, TAT is reading 50c and 51c (I've since turn on the AC in the room, it was getting quite hot in here).

Vcore is still set in the bios at 1.55v, but CPU-z is showing 1.238v and Speedfan is showing 1.50V

Are you saying I should lower back to stock voltage and try the 3.2????
 
If its running at 3.5 and is stable...that might be the limit for that chip....you could feed it more voltage and see what happens...You might get more...Its always a crap shoot between chips....some are better than others...
As far as CPUz....I'm not sure, but I think that reading is correct...its reporting 1/2 of your actual ram speed....someone else maybe can confirm this...

I have a Tuniq Tower 120 on the CPU, 2x 120mm Case fans, 1x 80mm case fan, plus whatever power supply fans there are, one sucking air out of the case and one blowing it out of the back of the ps. The video card Nvidia 6200 (I know it sucks, I'm waiting for some money to upgrade) has a Arctic Cooler NV Silencer 6. SB and NB are connected with the eVGA heat pipe solution and I put the optional fan on the NB. All put together with Arctic Silver.
 
go for 8x425... and start at 1.4 volts and go from there. thats 3.4ghz.
