How can you tell if one core is a beast and the other is a log? Does it ever happen when one core can be stable at much higher frequencies than the other? How can you find this out, is there a way that you can overclock the two cores separately? I have socket 940 DC opterons and I don't intend to OC them, primarily beacuse it won't go much higher if at all with my mobo and I can't risk instability, but assume I asked this question for a normal socket 939 dual-core opty or athlon64 x2...

I'm guessing that's a 'no', but you could assign a stress test to a single core.

the reason I asked this question is very basic, lets say you wanna get superpi 1m and you are stuck at 2.6 GHz with a dual core opty, maybe you have got 3+ GHz in one core and you are ripped of your braging rights by the other core, see my point?

Unless there's a wacky hack I don't know about, your chip is only as strong as the weakest link. I've never had core 0 fail prime at any frequency or voltage, but can't say the same for core 1, so I run at what core 1 can take. Almost everyone has a weaker core, I think.
