Overclocking CPU question using P4P800

Heyo,

I've had a P4P800 / 2.8ghz 800FSB Northwood combo for a while now, but I've just discovered the option "Jumperfree Configuraiton" in my BIOS. I set it to 10% and I noticed my CPU speed went from 2.8ghz to 3.08ghz. I was wondering how safe this is, if I can go higher, and if I do what type of CPU cooling I should use? (Not interested in watercooling yet)

Also, if the BIOS option isn't a good idea, what is a good utility to use when overclocking the CPU.

Sorry, I'm new to this overclocking biz. :D

Cheers

I would suggest not OCing that way. You should do it manually. You should also ease into a OC. Not just slam the CPU into overdrive. At least thats my opinion. Others may differ. I am running a 2.4C on a P4P800 deluxe @ around 3.3 . I am working on stability at the moment. My FSB is set at 275. But not quite stable at the moment. At 270 I am stable as a rock. But I will burn in the CPU and RAM to get it higher.

yes, o/c by smaller increments and do tests like 3dmark loops, prime95, etc... to verify stability at each stage.

you can probably get 3.3Ghz out of that 2.8 without too much problem.

I thought there was a sticky on "how to overclock" or something?
