Hey guys,

I'm trying to properly overclock my new Asus Trifan cards. The CCC auto tuner is crap it spends hours and then the results are completely bogus. I let it run for 3 hours and it finally came to a conclusion of 835/1010mhz. That's without any volt modding or anything done to the Bios and when I went to play Trine it completely crapped out.

Are there any tools that will properly tune this card?

Edit: I tried ATI Tools but it fails to recognize the card/drivers.
 
You don't want to use the CCC tool for sure. It doesn't really produce "real" usable results. My best answer for you is to use RivaTuner OR use the CCC, but don't let it auto do it for you. Move the sliders up say 50 mhz every time then run Furmark stability test to check for artifacts+system crashes.
 
You have dual 4870 which is the fastest going and you still want to OC them? Why? Just be happy with stock speeds and move on. The gain is not worth writing home about.

The fastest is never fast enough.

The best tool that doesnt completely near bake the cards is probably crysis benchmark tool or warhead benchmark tool. For original use assault_harbor demo map because thats a lot more stressful then island overfly. Loop that several dozen times at your speeds at max resolution (no AA) for at least an hour worth and see if that passes.

Same thing for warhead...usually I would use the ambush demo map, its long and fairly demandign as well.
 
Hey, I overclocked my factory overclocked card. Don't complain about him :p

My factory OCed card came with 800/1000, but I was able to get the memory to 1100 ok (idk what my core was at, but it was as high as I could make it in the CCC)

I used Riva Tuner at first, then used CCC after I reformatted my computer.
 
I'm getting system lockups after a couple of minutes of playing at 820/1000, I haven't changed the voltage or anything, all temps are well within safe levels. Is modding the voltage all that's really needed to achieve higher speeds??

Yes.

Heres the quick voltage fix I use. Note that with HD 4870x2 you'll have to apply higher voltages to each gpu, gpu1 and gpu2. Basically select current gpu, select voltage, hit apply then select 2nd gpu and select and apply voltage.

Also this XS thread has a bunch of usefull goodies.

Bump up voltage to 1.3V for both gpu's, force fan to 100% and see if the settings pass at least 15 min of OCCT gpu test (default shader complexity).
