I just walked into my 3D modeling class to find we got new computers. HP P4 3.2, GeforceFX 5200, 2 Gigs of memory. I guess they didn't realize they left a few options available to us students. heh, heh.

Meh why bother?

If I was the admin for those systems I would be pissed at you.

ya i reccomend not touching those things like that. they know who and when goes on those comps. deep shit for you if u screw something up; even if htey catch u OCing it would be bad

We just have fun making our intel extreme 2 chips cry with 3d autocad @ 1600x1200 :D

But our cad teacher is really cool, and I think he would be up for oc'in if i bring my own rig

If I were IT here, I would have made sure OC settings were disabled. I'm sure they will catch it soon enough.

Well u forget. The booksmart idiots who did the IT/MIS crap by book can't do stuff like that unless its in the book! They can't think outside the book! :p

got a point there

heh, I'm glad I'm not the only sadistically hatefull one around here when it comes to those things.....trying to play Unreak2k4 on that card in my P4 made my eyes bleed......so.....painfull. :p

I've been holding a grudge against the card ever since.....I can no longer have any respect for it as a video card. ;)

i'd hate to admit it but nvidia has the lead in terms fo flagship products as of now (in ym opinion) but when it comes ot midmarket gear like the fx5200, they just suck. see if u can remove the hsu and any cooling equipment of any kind from teh card and overclock it. watch it burn alive :D

Haha, No I don't think I'm going to fry any vid cards to punish IT ignorance. :D Bu it would be fun.

I thought that was WHY we were doing this......*nudge nudge*

My graphics school has a TON of Athlon XP machines which you can easily just go up and start overclocking it. I was playing around with a few of them and overclocked them for the hell of it. Wonder how they're doing right now. Nothing extreme of course, but it was interesting to see that they didn't do anything about that.

Meh, in my high school if someone changes a background or something, they're to stupid to figure out who it was, or who was assigned to that PC at the time it happened. They just keep asking ovr and over, and you don't get any work until someone confesses. And even when you do, they just say don't do it again. I dunno though, damaging hardware would be a diffrent story. I wouldn't bother though, but if you pointed it out to a professor or teacher I'm sure they'll thank you for it, and maybe they would keep an eye on you, and give you better grades =D.

It's sad that some places are so behind the times that they not only know nothing about preventing it......they know nothing about detecting/understanding it.....so it just rolls on by.....

Yeah up until something fries and they try to get a new one for free from the manufactureer, then they finally hear about what overclocking is, and that there PC's were somehow doing it.

Haha, awsome......that there PC's were somehow doing it.....that's rich.

heh, thx man....i needed a good laugh. :D

Yeah. I personally feel that the school is behind on their equipement at the moment anyways. I mean Athlon XP 2100's for graphics design?.... Their rendering machines are the same I think. The graphics cards are FX5200's or GF MX440's. Oh well.

Man you guys are lucky, in Sci Tech right now, all our computer labs are filled with these old ass IBM's. Like the real old pentium 3's. Big chunky white cases. But then again, all we're learning is how to use excel. word, and search engines, lol, so really no use for anything more.

Mwahahahahaha. Theirs but soon won't be working for putting us through their hell! "cough* What just happened?.... :)

Haha.......ROFL

good stuff man, make it happen. :D

The thing that gets me is they spent all this money to get these new systems for the CAD labs and they end up with:
17" LCD monitors that you can't read read fine text. (the CRTs we had were much better for clarity)
2 Gigs of PC3200 memory which will never get fully used
A crappy graphics card that probably cost as much as each stick of 512 memory
No zip drives (how everyone has been backing up their work to take home)

LMAO... Too funny.

When I was in HS I overclocked our IT directors P4 (socket 423) From like 1.5 to 1.7ghz. It was fun, I actually still think its running at that speed this very moment. :p

All of my college's computer suck. We have a million dells that suck, like P4 2.4ghz ones with 400mhz FSB. Oh and everyone that logs on is a power user that can install stuff
