I have recently purchased the following:

Asus P5Nsli
Antec 500 W
xfx 7800gt
Antec p180 case
using old ide hard drives

Soon to come:

conroe e6600
2Gb memory

I understand that my mobo is not the best overclocker but if I replace it in a couple of yrs could I change a few components, get better cooling and overclock rather than go with a new build. How much difference does it really make?

Yeah that's a definite possibility...

I mean, right now I'm sitting at 475 * 7 for stable, all day operation. That's *damn* fast... I dont think ANYTHING in the next 2 years will need much more power than that...

I thought about that as well...

But is it really an upgrade when you decide to overclock it right away? :p

Maybe I could push my processor to 3.6Ghz in two years or so as a slight "upgrade" :)

Well right now you're running at 3.15 right?

I wonder how much farther you could get it...

Anyways OP, if you dont OC right away, then yeah it would be quite a boost... going up 800mhz on this processor really adds ALOT of oomph!

Well I am still running on default voltage. I just dont feel it is necessary to raise my computer voltage right now to achieve stable overclocks above 3.2Ghz (3.2Ghz was stable in Orthos for 4+ hours on default VCore and then it failed, so 3.2 is pretty much my maximum stock VCore oc.. 800Mhz is not bad at all ;))

But in like two years, I will not worry so much because I will probably be considering other upgrade options by then anyway, and possibly overclock just to squeeze a few extra months out of it :)
