Overclocking and my PCI lock

So then, I decided that today I'd see what kind of oc I can expect from my proc. I wasn't expecting anything much at all, as I know the clawhammer isn't exactly the world's best overclocker, and neither is my motherboard, but I still wanted to see what I could juice out of it. I've been using eclipse's oc guide, and you can see my sig for info on my hardware.

To my issue: First I began by looking for my board's max HTT. I found it at ~270, so I bumped it down 5 mhz and called that my max. Not exactly a huge htt, but hey, I wasn't expecting much.

Then I noticed something, and I want to know if this is a bug with clockgen, or if it's real. My motherboard appears to lock the AGP bus, because it sits at a steady 66.99mhz no matter what HTT I'm running (there seems to be no explicit "AGP/PCI Lock" in the bios). The PCI bus however, bumps itself up everytime I increase the HTT. Why isn't it locked? Is it actually locked, but clockgen is giving me false info? Would this be preventing me from going any higher on my HTT?

Thanks for reading,
hope you can help :D

I found that Easytune 5 (the default oc'ing program with the gigabyte motherboards) keeps the pci bus at 33 mhz....is this a clockgen issue?

Wow, I just found that I was completely wrong about easytune keeping the pci-lock on; in fact it completely nullified the agp lock as well! After bumping the htt up in easytune, I booted up clockgen and hit get values, and then both the agp and pci buses we overclocked.....
so apparently clockgen is better than my motherboard's program....

anyone have any ideas as to how I can get around this issue?

Try going into the BIOS and set your AGP Frequency to 67mhz, that might solve it.

I don't have any experience with that motherboard, so it's hard for me to say.

Yeah, I emailed gigabyte's techs to see if they know a way to get around it....

I just find it odd that my AGP bus is staying locked, but the PCI isn't...

Odder than all the package dependancies I'm having in Linux right now that's for sure...

lol...dependencies blow in linux...i'm glad they've got some of that auto-checking stuff in some distros now.

does anyone have any ideas as to how I can lock my pci bus?

set your HTT at 201in the BIOS THEN go into windows and use clockgen. alot of boards dont turn the lock on until the board is over 200HTT in the BIOS

ooooo

that sounds like a good idea. thanks, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Hey, much love for ctrl alt del.

thanks guy, my pci lock functions now!

dont mean to to completly hijack, but will locking my pci freq keep my old pci gfx card from displaying black on the screen every 15 seconds

very possibly, if your pci bus is being oc'd. it's not as though it could hurt.

on a side note: sadly getting the pci bus locked didn't help my oc anymore...it seems as though I can only get ~2.6 out of this proc @1.65vcore, and my max htt is still the same. oh well, glad its been fixed anyway :D
